sore on 2yr old's chin

DS had what looked like a spot on his chin last week, but it's kind of grown and spread and is how a horrible sort of oozy patch, about the size of a penny. It bothers him - he keeps licking it and saying it's sore - but he won't keep a bandage on it unless he's asleep...
Any suggestions of how to get it to heal up?

Could it be impetigo? A friend's dd had this on her chin and her mum thought it was just a spot. See GP about it?

have just googled: yes, it could be, definitely. Sounds like the GP needs to have a look (specially as new baby due next week, planning homebirth etc. and I'd DEFINITELY rather not be having to fend poor ds off new baby...)

Yes does sound like impetigo. You'll need an ab cream and scrupulous hygiene. Will be exldued form nursery/playgroup if he goes as very infectious.

oh b*r. He's with his childminder now... Called NHS Direct who won't talk to me as ds not with me at the moment; called GP who can only offer me an appointment in half an hour (no good as DS with cm), so feeling a bit stymied.
It definitely looks and sounds like the pictures of impetigo though, thank you v much for the pointer - I'd have waited several more days without doing anything if you'd not said, and it sounds like it needs dealing with asap!

It only takes 24-48 hrs of treatment to become non contagious , so the sooner the better ...

You do need to contact the childminder ASAP. It's highly infectious if it is this. Call the GP back and tell the receptionist that your child possibly has a contagious illness, he does need some treatment as soon as possible as it does spread.
