My baby has been ill for 6 weeks, normal???

To cut a very long story short, my DD has been ill for what seems like an eternity.
It started with a cold, not a big deal, gradually got worse, high temp etc. GP prescribed antibiotics for ear infection. She then got such bad diahorrea (sp?) that it caused what the doctor described as a chemical burn on her bottom. Took her to the peadiatrican who felt that she didn't need the antibiotics and there was nothing wrong with her ears, but she has a stomach bug.
Lots of nappy off time, waiting it out, and she got better.

Then after one week of being healthy she got the diahorrea back on Saturday, terrible nappy rash, fractious and miserable. Back to the peadiatricain (Tues) who has sent stool samples for testing. Appears to be getting better but then on weds night thurs she developed a full blown cough, cold, and constant high temperature.

Is this really normal? 6 weeks is such a long time to be ill. She hasn't had any solids at all since Saturday morning.

She is 8 months old.
Is it normal or should i be worried?
Any suggestions of how to help her?

Sorry this is so long

DD went to nursery at 8 months old. At that time she did catch everything going, I was constantly called to the nursery for one illness after another. However none of the bugs she caught were bad enough to warrant a paediatrician being involved and she certainly wasnt ill for 6 weeks running.
Im not sure if that helps any, hopefull y others will be along with more advice

Thanks, she isn't in nursery although she does mix with other babies.
She was refered to the peadiatrician by the GP who said he didn't think there was anything major but also didn't feel like she was quite right and wanted to be over rather than under cautious. It wasn't even me being PFB about it . This was about 4 weeks ago. Although having gone on this long i would have pushed to be seen by one anyway.

I would take your DD back, give a full account of her history and treatment, and your concerns about her condition and how it is not getting any better. This has been going on too long and I would be worried if she has gone off her food.

Ask the dr/paediatrician to take a look at her ears just in case. They will probably be fine but we had a similar experience with our DD and it turns out that she gets asymptomatic ear infections so we cannot tell when her ears aren't doing too well. The only clues we ever get are fever/cold symptoms and diarrhoea (dr said this was common for babies/toddlers with ear infections - didn't know this and came as a surprise). Her stool samples came back negative.

Hope your DD gets better soon and a big hug for you Stickybean
