It depends really.

If you can watch from somewhere where you are sure there is no-one who is immuno suppressed or pregnant then you may be ok.

LIZS · 17/04/2009 09:16

No ! He's contagious for at least 5 days with spots, you should n't take him out where he may infect others, particularly anyone who may be pg or have a suppressed immune system. He may feel unwell later too.

OracleInaCoracle · 17/04/2009 09:21

pants. oh well. will see if i can get him into docs today.

Probably not a great idea to take to GP either, if you're pretty sure what it is...in fact GP will prob ask you not to!!

mankyscotslass · 17/04/2009 09:44

Yup our GP did not want us in the surgery!

I just called and said what I though it was, and they got me a prescription of Piriton and calpol to use if needed.

They told me to watch for secondary infections and left me to it.

LIZS · 17/04/2009 09:48

Doesn't really need to see a dr

OracleInaCoracle · 17/04/2009 10:05

ok, thanks. they dont seem to be itchy, but are showing up at quite a rate.

OP posts:
LIZS · 17/04/2009 10:23

They will come in batches for a few days.

rubyslippers · 17/04/2009 10:25

aw Lissie

stock up on calamine and aqeous cream plus piriton

bicarb and oaty baths are very soothing

DS got spots EVERYWHERE but he wasn't ill IYSWIM, just very spotty

hope your DS is ok

auntyspan · 17/04/2009 10:45

SYMPATHIES. DD1 is just getting over it - she's been very poorly too unfortunately. She didn't get itchy until a few days after the first spot - I think when they started scabbing.

I'm pretty sure she's not infectious anymore so we're going to the park this afternoon - she has cabin fever staying at home for so long and she's being very naughty so she must be feeling better

He will be infectious so I wouldn't take him anywhere I'm afraid.

OracleInaCoracle · 17/04/2009 14:45

well, a few new ones have popped up. its def chicken pox by the looks.

OracleInaCoracle · 17/04/2009 15:33

does anyone know if a woman in early pg who has had chicken pox will be safe?

OP posts:
mummyhill · 17/04/2009 15:33

How early lisie?

OracleInaCoracle · 17/04/2009 15:35

about 4w. had both cp and shingles.

OP posts:
mummyhill · 17/04/2009 15:35

I only ask because I had a strange coincidence according to the gp in that I suffered m/c at nine weeks twice after being round my children whilst they had chickenpox.

Geepers · 17/04/2009 15:36

If she has had chicken pox she will be fine.

Lizzylou · 17/04/2009 15:36

DS1 had CP when I was pg with DS2 (we went to the antenatal clinic the day before the spots showed ). I rang the MW and the clinic and they said not to worry.
All was well, I had CP as a child.
Hope he's OK, seems to be doing the rounds again here, DS2 hasn't had it yet...

mummyhill · 17/04/2009 15:36

I had chicken pox as a child.
If in doubt get the gp to do a blood test to check immunity.

OracleInaCoracle · 17/04/2009 15:39

thanks, iirc shingles are kind of the last strain of the virus and builds total immunity.. still just have to keep everything crossed.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 17/04/2009 15:45

oh, I wish dd would get it. Been exposed 30 zillion times in her life (shes 9) was convinced that she would get it this time round - but no. Shes clearly saving it for her wedding night or a-level exams or summat.

LIZS · 17/04/2009 16:02

hmm , we've been told ds has a 5% chance of getting shingles again. Not caused by exposure to cp thoguh , you should be fine.

OracleInaCoracle · 18/04/2009 15:06

he's got diarrohea too, poor thing
