its works quickly ime, but can cause wind too. Hows he doing?

mad4myboys · 16/04/2009 21:43

still asleep. I really dont know what to think at the mo. Hes on neocate milk, domperidone and omperazole for reflux. He cant have lactulose as allergic to dairy, have tried sugar water and prune juice, docusate and senna. The hosp had to prescribe this over the phone. They said it will take a few days to work...although if he is like this already im not sure why it would take a few days?? Do you think it will be like this every time i give it to him?

he has been how he is since birth and when they finally agreed to put cameras down and up him i was proved right that something else was wrong with him. He was starved and had 3 wash outs which came through clear when they put the camera into his bowel the surgeon said it was completely full of green sticky poo and that it was really strange. That was 2 weeks ago...his follow up appt is in 2 weeks

if your worried, take hom back.

mad4myboys · 16/04/2009 21:52

im guessing they'd want him in straight away if they were concerned? They said see how he was over w/e and if he was no better they'd take him in.

My dd has been on movicol for quite a while (she has SN) and it hasn't ever caused her to be in pain. When she was really constipated in the past, it did take quite a few doses before it really gets things moving but then there is a 'flood'... If he is all blocked up, I would think that would likely give him pain anyway.

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 17/04/2009 15:52

mad4myboys - personaly I'd take him back because it depends on why he's blocked. If he's impacted then he's ok on movicol but if there's any chance that it's a structutal type blockage then movicol is contraindicated.

im so angry. HAd an AWFUL night last night. He woke about 10.30 in agony and went on all through the night chronic wind and awful tummy ache. Hardlyb got any sleep, was same this am then he had 2 very runny nappys, was in pain for rest of day. Rang the registra who i spoke to this week and he said its quite common for them to get 'colic' pains and that it will pass and i was to persevere with it. I disagreed as it was not colic pain he was in agony and wouldnt feed at all today. Went to the gp to ask advice as not happy with the registra who said take him off the movical and that id just have to get on with it till my follow up appt end of the month. Im seething. gp told me to go back on the docusate which he WAS on that hadnt been helping but have just realised i binned it...Going to be going through the w/e with NOTHING!!! Dont know what to do..

Sounds awful for you and him. I think movicol isn't usually prescribed before age 2 normally. Perhaps it really isn't agreeing with him. Docusate never worked for my dd either. I would take him back after the w/end as they suggested if no improvement.

mad4myboys · 17/04/2009 20:49

they dont know the reason for the blockage,.,.I knew since he was born that something wasnt right (i knew he had reflux as ds1 had it) and he suffered from consitpation alot and went a week once without pooing but because he was changed milks a few times i put it down to that. The paed surgeon said it was strange and didnt know why it was like this which doesnt really instill much faith you know? I have no idea what COULD have caused this? My normal gp said there is a condition which i cant remember what it was that can cause this... im getting a little bit worried now though..
