Poor ds age 2 and nearly a half has a cough cough cough and snot - doesnt sound chesty particulalrly just hacking away constantly- has gone to bed and cried as couldnt get to sleep for coughing so i gae him some simple cough lintus i had in and he seemed a bit upset and warm so i gave some calprofen as well and offered hima drink which he refused. He has gone quiet again apart form intermitent coughing - I have now found some tixylix night time cough which i know in the past has stopped him coughing - could i give him it? the other one was more a linctus or should i wait till he has coughed all night till midnight or wait and see..........hmmmmmmmmmmmm I have hung a wet towel up as well.........

Much sympathy from me, both DD's are like this. I got DD1 some sudafed for children which seems to help clear the snot a bit and then I sneak vicks onto their chests after they are asleep.
I did put a sippy cup next to DD1's bed last night so she could wake up and have a sip if she wanted.

he is quiet and fast asleep now so i can hold off but i know he will start again at midnight or sooner as i climb into bed typically - dh has been coughing all day too so i guess no sleep anyway! What does sudafed do then? i hav left a refilled bottle of volvic next to his lol so i dont have to run downstairs for midnight drinks!

I could have written this thread last night!! Then at 1am I remembered my mum had bought otravine nose drops which I always poo-pooed but, let's face it after vapourizer smelly stuff, hot water with olbus oil, dare I say it, mediced and lots of hugging and water I gave dd nose drops. Suddenly all was quiet, no coughing, no crying and lovely lovely sleep for all if us.

JackBauerKilledTheEasterBunny · 13/04/2009 20:57

Sudafed is a decongestant.

DD1 is silent, DD2 is trying to hack up a lung though as it is for over 2's so she couldn't have any.

I do have some nose drps somewhere though...

BlueBumedFly · 13/04/2009 21:00

Give the nose drops and stay sane. Gave them again tonight to much protestation but hey, no coughing and I have a glass of wine!

nappyzonecannotcycleuphill · 13/04/2009 21:17

i think i have some of those nose drops - of to rifle through cupboards - he has started coughing......

bollocks they have been opened - given 22.3.08 - lucky if a drop has been used but label says discard after 28 days - whatya reckon?

Try them on you first? Ok after ten mins then give it a go? If anything I guess the will just be inatfectual?

BlueBumedFly · 13/04/2009 21:30

Hmmm, just googled out of date nose drops and it said they could contain dirt or bacteria. I guess it depends if you made contact with anyones nose with the dropper last time?

nappyzonecannotcycleuphill · 13/04/2009 21:32

he is laying on his side anyway so no way i could give without waking moving and distressing - can you buy over counter as may get some for tomorrow..... will tixylix in a bit i think.

Yes, children's nose drops over the counter. Have you tried filling a bowel with boilng water and add olbus oil or karvol to dampen the room down? How about nurofen to reduce the inflamation in the nasal passeges and larynx?

BlueBumedFly · 13/04/2009 21:39

Sorry, bowl obviously not bowel!!!

nappyzonecannotcycleuphill · 13/04/2009 21:41

calprofen so nurofen yes and wet towel so air moist yes - have tixylix earlier in the week and it did work just didnt want to as have already given a cocktail of calprofen and linctus if you see what i mean ..........oh the joys of coughing children! he is also propped up on super high pillow!

My sympathies - DD is prone to this stuff too. I give her chesty cough medicine (guaifenesin), which makes it worse to begin with as all the gunge begins to clear out, then better quicker than without anything. And calpol. And either a bowl of boiling water on the floor or wet flannel on the radiator, with a few drops of Eucalyptus Oil in/on, just like you said.

BlueBumedFly · 13/04/2009 21:52

I raise my glass of wine to your larger! Cheers hun!
