Help with a rash.

My dd (almost 2) has had a horrible rash for about a week now which I thought was nappy rash. I tried Sudocrem and that did nothing so I tried Metanium cream and that hasn't worked either. I'm at a bit of a loss now as that has always cleared up nappy rash straight away before. It doesn't seem to be bothering her very much, not as much as it looks like it should, if you know what I mean. It is bright red and looks really angry. Every now and then she says her bum hurts (pleasant I know) and I wondered whether this was when she is doing a wee. She did have oral thrush about 2 weeks ago which I treated with Daktarin gel from the chemist. Do you think the two could be related? Can babies get vaginal thrush and does anyone know if this is what it looks like?

nappy rash can be fungal, and fungal rashes especially can sting when wee gets on them.

Fungas is of course absolutely normal on skin, but it does especially like somewhere warm and dark and damp like the inside of a nappy. I don't know if it's the same fungus as you get in oral thrush (doubt it.

Best thing is to change the conditions where the fungas is growing keep it dry and cool and light - can you let her run round nappyless for as long as possible? change her nappy often, use a barrier cream?

Thanks. I have tried letting her go nappyless but as you can imagine, we had a few accidents!! I've used Sudocrem, are there any other barrier creams you know of that might be better. I have been changing her nappy every hour for a week now and nothing seems to be working. I guess maybe a trip to the drs is in order if it doesn't clear up soon. It just doesn't llok like normal nappy rash to me.

Could well be a fungal infection like thrush in whch case you need a prescription for crema for it. dd had simialr and it was very red and angry looking.

Could it be teething related at all? Have you tried bicarb of soda mixed with water dabbed on with cotton wool - chemical make-up of wee apparently changes when teething making it corrosive and the bicarb solution neutralises it - I found several recipes online a few months ago but can't remember where - sorry - maybe someone else knows? All the best!
