dd's verrucas? one big massive one, and one little one. i have tried using the cream the doc gave, which is useless, tried cutting it out, and tried freezing it twice now. ... it just seems to keep getting bigger.
any advice appreciated

I read somewhere that rubbing them with the insides of banana skins was supposed to work...mind you I've also heard that nothing really works, and the best thing to do is just leave them.

They do fall out eventually (one of the more satisfying things about having a kid is watching this) That happened to dd's ones and they havent returned.

Someone on here recommended a banana skin, I'm sure if you search you'll find it!

I, however, went for a more traditional option.

After using 3 packs of the freeze spray DD had between 9-11 (started with 3) including one huge on under the joint of her big toe.

She hated the freeze stuff and said it hurt.

I got some scholl verucca treatment which is little (different sized, although DD's was too big for the biggest patch!) discs that you cover with a padded plaster - I always put a plaster over top to keep it on - for at least 2 days.

You then have to remove dead skin (facinating in a sickly fashion), which doesn't hurt. Then place anopther disc and plaster over the top.

DD was free within a few weeks.

Good luck

Time is the only effective cure.

If you leave the body's natural healing mechanisms to treat verrucas, then they won't reappear. If you hasten their removal, the body may not have built up enough of an immune response to prevent reinfection.

eek, will try the banana skin... dd hates having it cut out

ds had many, and i got the bazuka type cream, used it for a bit, then forgot, good mummy that i am, and they seem to have disappeared of their own accord..

I had tons of verrucas as a teen and the only thing that worked was walking on sand on a Greek beach for a week.

Hardly the cheapest method though!

I agree that time is the best method as long as you are not exposed to repeated infection

MarmadukeScarlet · 13/04/2009 19:21

What about all the children (or adults for that matter) that catch them whilst your DC are 'building up an immune response'?

BCNS · 13/04/2009 19:22

stick gaffa tape on them.. works a treat

Milliways · 13/04/2009 19:24

Yep - duct tape is what the GP's recommend where I work.

It got rid of mine, and they had been resident for years

Milliways · 13/04/2009 19:25

how to treat with tape

sameagain · 13/04/2009 19:40

Doctor told me to leave them and eventually they go on their own and you have immunity. Apparently if you treat them, you don't build up the same resistance.

I had one 20 odd years ago, which was left to its own devices - it took several months to go, but I've never had another one, despite being a very regular swimmer
