Very frequent nosebleeds - should we be concerned?

Ds1 is 9 and gets very frequent nosebleeds.

He has had three today. Sometimes he gets them just leaning forward. He can go for days without one and then seems to have days when he has heaps.

Usually just one nostril and they stop fairly quickly. On Sunday when he was out with dh he had a very bad one from both nostrils that went on for quite a long time. Dh soundied quite worried on the phone that it wasn't going to stop and they were going to end up in A&E. He said he had never seen so much blood.

A trip to the doc required?

I used to get them all the time when I was younger. In the end I had my nose cauterised and it stopped them. I know I got them when I was hot or stressed. Not sure if there was a problem with my nose though. I'd go to the doctors if I were you.

Is your son a habitual nose picker?

Thank you. I will make an appointment for him. Was it painful to get it cauterised?

I think he picks a bit sometimes, but the most recent occasions were not caused by picking. The one tongith was caused by dh hitting hm with a cushion (they were mucking about!) and I think a zip caught him and he started to cry, then his nose started to pour.

Picking = scabs, scabs get knocked and bleed. If he's not long had a dig the scab won't be a strong one so a slight knock will open it up.

Cut his nails.
