ds1 is 2.10. has bad asthma, has brown and blue puffers with aerochamber every day.

he now has awful hayfever. anti histamine not helping just been gp who said he still too young for anything else. Really desperate as really affecting sleep/behavior. have seen new era combination h but he cant have lactose. wondering if seeing a homeopath may help?

sorry your ds is like this.
do you know what he's allergic to? it's early in the year for hay fever, so it may be that whatever he's allergic to will be gone in a few weeks.
but in the meantime, you could try avoiding what ever it is, keep windows closed etc.
I did see some stuff in Boots that was not a drug, but some kind of vaseline I guess you smear it on the inside of nostrils, stops pollen etc affecting them. Haven't tried it but maybe worth a try.
As for homeopathy, I'm afraid I have spent £100s in the past for my dd and it has been a complete waste of time and money OTOH it won't do your ds any harm, and I know some folk swear by it.
hay fever can def make asthma worse, he may need mor of is brown puffer.
good luck

it says on box 2 puffs twice a day, does that not mean if i cant give him anymore though?

I have no idea what it is, but DH hayfever bad too and i know silver birch and grass pollen are his worst. Hes up there now coughing. I have a humidifier but someone on here said it made them worse and that they used a DEhumidifer (so dry air) gp today said use air conditioning. I do have a unit but i need to put the pump bit out the window and she said it is no use, that id have to put a piece of wood up (??) and put tube through that so it is completley sealed and that i need to keep his door shut ALL the time. His window is front of house so not sure how safe that would be putting wood instead of glass up?aLso his room gets very hot as sun there all day..

Some people recommend having a spoon of either local or manuka honey each day.
Worth a try and won't do him any harm.

I use that Haymax stuff on my DD's nose in the hope that it will catch some of the allergens. Not sure how much good it does, though...

my understanding is, if brown puffs are not preventing symptoms, you should use more, but check this out with gp or asthma nurse.
Does your dh have bad hay fever now?
I think for asthma generally humidity is bad.
I know you can get screens so that you can have windows open but pollen is kept out from a company called allergy care.

mad4myboys · 07/04/2009 19:08

dh asthma is bad now yes. ds1 is being referred to allergy specialist as he has food allergies but now having bloods done as seems to be something else. He has been in bed 3/4 hour trying to get to sleep as is knackered due to bad sleep and up at 5.30 due to coughing but he still coughing.

i mean DH HAYFEVER is bad now, not asthma!

madlentileater · 07/04/2009 19:15

allergy specialist should help, you may find there are things you'd been assuming were the problem are in fact OK.

mad4myboys · 07/04/2009 19:18

trouble is appointment is taking AGES!! Same old nhs. Cant go private as have spent alot on ds2 private referrals as hes v poorley and appts taking too long.
Its so unfair on him. I cant help him. Can you get air conditioner units that are condensor? That dont need to go out the window or are there only the huge units?

i cant find the allergy care website. dont suppose you know the address?

I dont know wether or not to get rid of his carpet? It is only 2 years old, but had it prof cleaned a month or so ago...

OP posts:
madlentileater · 07/04/2009 19:24

I wouldn't worry about the carpet unless allergy bod says he has house dust mite allergy, OTOH if you have had it cleaned recently could he be allergic to the cleaning chemicals? Is he worse in the same room as carpet?
have to go now, will try and check in later

mad4myboys · 07/04/2009 19:25

at night he is worse but always has been. All the carpets in the house were done. He is the same in the car and outside though..

we used to find raising the head end of the bed helped.
is there an asthma nurse at your drs?
I have found them v useful, and even if it's hayfever making it worse, it's the asthma that's the main issue, I imagine. Ours had lots of helpful tips.
www.allergybestbuys.co.uk/
is the site I saw the window screens on.

mad4myboys · 07/04/2009 20:41

thanks for the link. His head end is raised up! I really dont see what else there is that i havent tried.. IT is really affecting everyone now as he is so tired/grumpy/badly behaved because of it all
