GP recommended calpol BEFORE immunisation... is this necessary?

GP who is our practice's paed expert recommended giving DS paracetamol prior to his jabs (today!) and whilst I have heard of other mums dong this, I am a bit circumspect. I didn't with DD- just gave it when her temperature went up afterwards...

I wouldn't take paracetamol before I got a headache IYSWIM, so not sure really. Don't like giving children unnecessary medication full stop.

DOES it really help?

IMO it helps. Esp when they are little. Like you are advised to take some before you get a wax to help numb the pain or something..

It won't do him any harm. But then again my 2 were never poorly after jabs, not every child will be grotty afterwards

Hope your ds's jabs are ok .

It might help
I never bothered for mine, they didn't get a temp either so never got the calpol

I've always given it to mine. As long as they are well otherwise and you know the calpol won't mask any other symptoms from genuine illness. It can take over half an hour for calpol to kick in, so if lo's already had it...........
