mouth ulcers

Does anyone have any advice about treating mouth ulcers? My 18 month old has not eaten and has been really grumpy for 2 days. I realised today that she has terrible ulcers across one side of her tongue. Any advice? Is it thrush? I'm very worried as I have thrush at the moment (sorry TMI!) and I shared a bath with her 2 nights ago which coincides with her mouth ulcers. Please help!

Could be thrush, is her tongue white?
Could also be hand, foot and mouth, which also causes ulcers. It's a virus which will go away without needing treatment.

My 19mth was like this and then came out with the hand foot and mouth virus - blisters on palms/soles feet.
The GP I saw the day before just prescribed Bonjela for the ulcers and he said that children get ulcers and its just one of those things!!!
Needless to say i did my own diagnosis over the internet!!
Hope its not HF and M though as my little one suffered.

Thank you so much! I think it is h, f and m. She does have some spots as well. What treatment do you recommend?

None. It's a virus and will pass. Best to let nursery/playgroup know though.

My dd had Hand, foot and mouth a few years ago when she was 3. Was really nasty for a few days with so many sores in her mouth. GP just said lots of calpol. We did this with plenty of ice cream to soothe it. IIRC it went quite quickly. Is yout lo at nursery? If so you should probably let them know. Can be spread through poor hand washing. Hope they're feeling better soon.

In terms of eating - try lots of yoghurts. My DD had oral coldsores - which is essentially identical from the oral symptoms.

She wouldn't eat or drink anything...except yoghurts. Avoid fruits as they are acidic. Try and keep the fluids up to prevent dehydration. Bonjela 10-20mins before eating can numb to allow him to ea..though sometimes the actually application can be more pain that it is worth.

Thanks for help. She's on holiday from nursery for next 2 weeks anyway. Fingers crossed it doesn't last too long.

You could use antihistermene (sp?) for the itching as my LO used to scratch her feet at night in her grobag.
Also she went off her food so ice cream, yoghurts anything soft to eat was good.
They end up with peeling skin on their hands and feet where the blisters were and it seemed to have affected her nails abit too!
I didnt mix with anyone for 7 days as its very contagious, although a friend of mine came down with it after her son caught it off my Lo before we knew what it was!! Not nice
