Frequent headaches

Ds9 seems to complain quite frequently of headaches. I spoke to my friend about it and she said its quite common in kids, but I'm not so sure.
At what point should I take my DC to the doctor about this? The headaches do not last long, but are just too frequent for my liking.

Does he drink plenty of water and get enough sleep? Has he had a recent eye test?

DS (11) is off school again today with another headache - took him to the docs this a.m as I also think they are too frequent. (He has no sickness with them.)

They have given him blood tests, (to rule out anemia or any possible thryoid problem... results will be back in a week)

They didn't think I was being over-fussy or wasting their time. So perhaps a visit to docs is worth your while?

They also suggested having his eyes tested, so that is next on my list. - (but he says he can see perfectly!)

Where is the headache located (which part of head, I mean)? If in frontal area, could be sinus headache. Do you have any history of allergies in your family?

tiredsville · 31/03/2009 13:26

He does have a history of allergies, but what worries me the headache is located at the side, not the frontal (sinus) area.
Yes, he gets plenty of sleep and water.
I think I will take him to the doc and get his eyes tested, although his sight seems fine.

DD got glasses at the age of 9, the optician explained that children have the ability to re-focus their own eyes up to about the age of 8, so after 8 when they lose this ability then sight problems can become apparent. DD had headaches and didn't realise she had problems seeing until she got glasses and noticed the difference.

Whatever the cause is a quick GP visit might put your mind at rest.

Ds's headaches were caused by sinuses. They were worse in the morning. Sinuses problems are really difficult to diagnose in children. DS had to have an mri scan to diagnose his sinus. H

Hi tiredsville - just coming back to this as I mentioned in my previous post I am in the same boat - ds's headaches too frequent for my liking.

Blood tests done yesterday, as I think I said and they just rang me this a.m to say he has a low white blood cell count which might be post-viral (although he has had no virus) and they are going to re-test in a month.

So just to say, it is worth getting these things checked out... (although now I feel more confused than before!) and to say, sometimes your instinct for things being 'not quite right' may be a good one...
good luck!
