Is it normal for ds age 4 to be so sick?

My ds will be five in May. Everytime he gets a sickness bug he vomits and vomits and vomits. He started yesterday morning and is still trying to vomit over 24 hours later. His stomach is empty so he is actually just retching and heaving (it is so upsetting to see him like this). In between all he can do is sleep.
The last time this happened (two months ago) it went on for a week and after two visits to A&E we were still told it was just a bug.
It happened two months before that as well and took him over a week to recover after the sickness stopped.
It is just vomiting, nothing else. But he can't just be sick and get over it, it just keeps going ...
He never had reflux as a baby. He gets car sick. He has a balanced diet and no known allergies.
Is it normal for a child to be so sick? Anyone else have a similar experience?

Sorry you are going through this

I'm not really sure what to say or offer an opinion. Have you taken him to the doctors to get an overall check up?

It might just be that he gets hit particularly hard by the vomiting bug - by that I mean my DD's weakness is her chest, and she is affected several times a year by nasty coughs which are prolonged and painful, so maybe this is his weakness?

For me I took her to a homeopath, but it's not everyone's cup of tea. However, it does help her with her chest, might not be the same for the sickness though. Worth a thought.

Or what about getting some allergy testing done? Although I don't see how that would affect the sickness?

Not sure but sending you hugs

Thanks for the support. Have now got some anti-sickness medicine for him so hope it takes effect soon. Once we're through this episode I'm going to ask if we can be referred to a consultant to see if there is an underlying problem. Was just hoping that by posting on here, someone might have a similar problem.

I'm sure someone will come along soon with some pearls of wisdom.

It is distressing when your child gets sick, I know when my DD gets her coughs (4th time this year) and vomits and chokes I do wonder whether it's asthma or something....

I think it's cos you feel so helpless and sorry for them

Hope you get it sorted

Thanks herbietea. What a nightmare for you - at least you got a diagnosis in the end.

Def keeping fluids up this time (ended up in local children's hospital last time).

Herbietea - OMG! I have just googled CVS and there are so many similarities with what my son experiences. And it is linked to family history of travel sickness (ds is frequently sick in car, and my sister used to suffer terribly too). I will def discuss with dr. May not be the reason, but I feel so much lighter knowing it could be ...
