..as my dd1 says.

So, dd2 is 9 weeks and has a cough. Has had it since Monday after a bout of sniffles. I put those down to her jabs.

Today the cough is more persistent and hard and dry, and she had a fit of it lasting 20 mins resulting in her being really sick.

No wheezing or obvious problems otherwise - do you think I should worry or chill? She seems so tiny to be hacking away!

There's an illness called broncialitis that small babies can get, it's like a cold but they cough so much they don't feed properly or are sick when feeding because of their cough. It's a virus that does pass. If she's vomiting when feeding or just after because of the coughing then she could do with being looked at by a doctor. See what NHS direct say. I hope she's better soon.

Thanks for that. NHS said it's fine just ride it out but see a dr if not better by mon ot tue. Hadn't thought of all these things effecting her so young. dd1 never so much as sneezed till 7 months so a bit gutted for dd2.

Do call them back if she's not keeping feeds down because of the coughing or is unable to feed. Babies under 3 months don't get fevers (unless they have a cold/immunisation) so do take her to the GP if she gets one. Other then this, she's protected by your antibodies for the first few months so shouldn't get ill. A cold's different though, they can catch these.

I know it's daunting, the more you get to know her and her habbits the easier it gets as you can tell that there's something wrong.

I just believed she was in a coccoon with the bf! Am a bit miffed to have rl invade my bf bubble! This kind of thing happens to older babies not my tiny little thing. I guess she is getting a bit older and I need to catch up. Will keep close eye on her and generally worry till it all settles. Thanks for replying!

bf is the best start, she's protected by the antibiodies you have given her, they say that the bone marrow doesn't start producing her own blood effieciently for a few months so your antibodies are taking over (I don't know how true this is though). When she's a bit bigger her blood will change and she'll start making her own. She's got a cold, you can't help that.

Ta love. Will keep the faith!
