Breastfed 4 month old - often a lot of mucus in her stools. Is this normal?

Hi, dd2 is just over 4 months old and exclusively breast fed. I notice lately that she has quite a lot of mucus in some of her dirty nappies. Also her poo is mustard in colour (like I remember from dd1) but very liquid and not a grainy texture. Is this normal or would you get it checked. She is very healthy and happy and weighs around 14lbs now, she was 7lb 15oz at birth. She is teething though and has recently cut two teeth. Could this be a cause? Thanks

Congratulations for bfeeding, your baby is perfectly fine. The mucous probably is more than likely digested dribble!(only joking) Babies that are not fine don't gain weight, are cranky etc. Whatever you eat will affect the bmilk so as long as your diet is rich in nutrients, and you get plenty of liquids you will both be fine. Mucous is often formed through dairy produce and you both need calcium so I wouldn't restrict your intake.

Yes, teething can cause poos to change colour and texture. Also she might have had a little virus which can cause mucus in the stools but as long as she's feeding, still having wet and dirty nappies and bright in herself, I wouldn't worry. Breastfed babies' poos vary a great deal over time anyway so if there's no other sign of illness I really wouldn't worry.
