Vomiting before getting chickenpox

I think my DS has Chickenpox as his friend went down with it 2 weeks ago. Today he has been vomiting and not able to keep any food down. He hasn't any spots yet. Is this a usual thing with chickenpox? Thank goodness he's fast asleep now. He is 2.5.

Thanks

Sorry to hear your DS is unwell. However with chickenpox diagnosis a lot depends on the spots; what they look like and how they spread.

Vomiting is unusual though and with just that one symptom at the moment it's hard to tell.

unfortunately there is a tummy bug going round too.

I keep being convinced that dds cold symptoms and tiredness are chickenpox. She was exposed 3 weeks ago and also 11 days ago, but you know, I think its just a cold and that a watched child never spots.

i hope your ds feels better soon and doesnt share it.

My kids seem to throw up whenever they get a fever, so often at the beginning of an illness. DD threw up at the beginning of chicken pox, but as we were changing her we saw the spots so we knew what it was.

Yes. My dd had it last year when she was 3.5. SHe was ill for a couple of days before any spots showed, fwiw, once the spots appeared she got better very quickly and she onyl had a very mild case. But the days before the spots were very worrying as her temperature was incredibly high and she was being sick a lot. If you think it might be chicken pox though, do keep him inside as this is when he will be contagious, and get some oats and old tights in to bathe him when the spots get itchy.
