small blister like spots only on hands and under the lip line of bottom lip??

DD has developed small blister like spots under her bottom lip just outside the lip line and has lots on her hands and a couple on her feet. I thought it might be the start of chickenpox but she has had them for 24 hours now without a fever.

She doesn't have any ulcers inside her mouth so I assume this means it can't be hand, foot and mouth disease.

She seems fine in herself. Just changed her nappy and she seems to have quite bad nappy rash which could be related. I did think it could be something she ate but then the couple of spots on her feet seem to discount this.

Any ideas??

It sounds like Hand, foot and mouth.

Nothing to worry about and the only effect from it is that she may itch.

My dds both have just had it.

belgo · 27/03/2009 07:51

Yes that's hand foot and mouth. It can also cause spots on the bottom.

biskybat · 27/03/2009 08:03

But they aren't itchy, is hand foot and mouth itchy?

no it's not itchy. In fact my children weren't bothered by the spots and blisters at all. DD1 had painful mouth ulcers, but dd2 didn't.

Oh good, thankyou! I've been on chicken pox alert for the last day or so

It's not irchy but the blisters I got on the soles of my feet did make my feet hurt (I had it recently, we've had an outbreak at work).

also would say hand foot and mouth, she might be off her food as the mouth ones are sometimes sore, how old is she?

biskybat · 28/03/2009 17:19

she is 18 months old. She has developed a few more on her calves but doesn't seem too bothered. She has none in her mouth though which is good. Thanks everyone.

Almost certainly HFM.DS had it at around 14 months and it was mainly legs, hands and only one spot in his mouth. Nursery assured me adults hardly ever get it. This was, I'm afraid, a fib as I promptly got it and it wasn't nice.

mamas12 · 28/03/2009 17:57

Certainly sounds like it to me, it is part of the chicken pox family my doc told me when my dd had it at almost 2yrs and I was 8 months pg with ds at the time.
My mil was horified and tried to keep it quiet twas very funny.

bugger, (thought only under 10's caught it) I've been kissing her toes better all evening...she seems to be feeling pain because the spots obviously get more friction. Am hoping I don't catch it as have a college reunion next week - I'll be very popular if I spread HFM to everyone won't I

You've probably already had it as a child so won't catch it now.
