I just found my 11 month old sucking the loo brush.

Is there anything I could or should do?

Wow,my dd did that too and she is fine (now 11yrs old!)

Glad to know she's not the only one. (It was a 'clean' loo brush as you shouldn't keep yucky ones, so if yours was perhaps a trip to dr if you notice her sicken or for your own peace of mind?)

But this same dd also picked up dog sick and tried tasting it too at that age.

Children get up to all sorts especially when you're not looking, so just try to keep poisons out of reach, for sure. I had to laugh once when I saw this mum who was completely and utterly paranoid about germs, with her toddler dd who was licking the wheels of a buggy.

So it happens to us all, and they do say farming children have better immunity for being more exposed to germs.

I don't know if I'm more concerned that he has ingested poo or loo cleaner. Which is worse?

My poor baby. I'll keep a close eye on him.

Yuck!

He'll probably be OK. DS has done the same. He's also tried chewing on a hoof pick, my flip flops, the tyres of the buggy, an old piece of wood he picked up from the middle of the street and I recently stopped him as he was about the bite into a lump of horse poo he had got his hands on. What I always worry about are the things he has chewed / ingested that I haven't seen!!!! He is a slow learner I fear .

My son did this too- I think lots of them do as they seem to have an innate sense of what will cause you maximum stress/ embarrassment etc. I'd keep an eye on him and buy some 'green' bog cleaner in case he gets a taste for it!

Why do they beeline for the most revolting things? Ds loves nothing more than a good old suck on my shoes. Blegh. His philosophy seems to be "if it is on the floor I must put it in my mouth".

The loo brush is a step too far though.

Our loo brush now lives on the window sill well out of reach of DS (for the moment)... He found the brand new replacement one I bought and it is now in his playpen. He is distraught if I try to remove it.

DD ate a worm once so it's not only the boys!

Lawks · 26/03/2009 07:42

Oh eeeew. A worm! Yack.

My dd once thoughtfully ate a bit of bird poo. I was convinced she was going to get salmonella or bird flu or something and phone my friend who is a GP in a blind panic.

We have one of those toilet duck handles that you use the flushable pads with because I hate toilet brushes, but ds still licks that, he also reaches into the toilet for a good old splash.
Agree with everyone else, they always seem to get the nasty stuff. We were in the park the other day and I turned away for a moment, when i looked back, he had a hardened lump of dog poo in his hand. Nasty!!!!!!

Your ds should be fine. I normally just yell "DIRTY" at him and he now tries to put it down. Maybe you could keep the bathroom door closed for a while?

What was it Nietzche said? That which does not kill us makes us strong? Or was that Mr Zorg in the 5th Element?

kidowner · 26/03/2009 12:32

I never forget the look on my ds's face when he fell face first in sloppy duck poo, he was grinning from ear to ear. We took a photo and if relatives think its chocolate we don't correct them.

You're going to think this gross and I do now, but while we're at it and I've never confessed to this before and you don't know who I am............

Bubble gum was banned when I was small but I really wanted to try it.
Oneday I saw a chewed, well trodden, spat out, dirty pink glob on a pavement. So I scraped it up and chewed it secretly for the rest of the day.

Top that! (I don't think I was a toddler either)
