hi there, i'm new to posting here. my DS2, who is 17 months old has another 'viral induced wheeze' - poor love had this last year and then he had pneumonia so he's obviously a 'chesty' kind of child . he's quite perky though today and wants lunch - but i'm kind of out of ideas of what to give him - something light, comforting, non-mucus forming(!)... anyone got any ideas for me?
thanks!

Boiled eggs with bread soldiers?

citronella · 24/03/2009 12:36

never heard of mucus forming or non-mucus forming food!
temporary comfort food -
ice cream
slices of bread and butter cut into shapes
grapes
finger slices of cheese, carrot
chocolate buttons

I meant toasted bread soldiers...

Anything dairy makes for more mucus

Countingthegreyhairs · 24/03/2009 12:38

would he strips of toast or pitta bread with various dips such as hummus?

or pieces of ham or boiled egg?

or veg crudites with very light cream cheese dip (made with Philadelhia-type spread)

or tiny fish pie made in ramekins or tiny fish cakes made with white fish and a few peas??

Or is all of that too fatty?

How about something like roasted butternut squash with a bit of plain white rice?

Or a plate of fruit cut up to look like a face??

Or maybe a fruit "smoothie" made out of bananas and mangos or somesuch combination?

Really?! Learn something new every day.

Countingthegreyhairs · 24/03/2009 12:55

just remembered - apples are meant to be good for asthma and breathing related troubles ...

how about making some apple compote and serving with a plain biscuit?

Countingthegreyhairs · 24/03/2009 12:56

or grated apple with a few sultanas and a squeeze of lemon juice and bit of sugar?

buttercupmum · 24/03/2009 13:14

ooh thanks for quick responses! i do get stuck in a rut sometimes! i was told dairy is mucus forming too so i try to avoid it whenever we have colds but i didn't know about the apples. loving the making faces idea, will cheer him up no end!
