Olive oil drops for ear wax

The doctor has prescribed olive oil drops to get rid of a large ball of ear wax in ds2's ear that seems to be annoying him. Unfortunately neither the doctor nor the pharmacist bothered giving me any directions. Help appreciated re: how many drops; how often; how long for; do I massage/ tip his head, etc! TIA

Warm it slightly, dip cotton wool in it, then put the cotton wool in his ear, a couple days should sort it.

Sorry , mean't do this morning and evening for a couple of days

I'd put a bit in before bed and then put some cotton wool in. Then make sure he sleeps on the other ear so it doesn't just come out everywhere.

Thats the same, only mine would not keep still for me to drip it in

Don't put cotton wool in the ears as the fibres can irritate, and also can get stuck in the softened wax.

Get him to lie on his side, with his head in your lap. Drop about 4-5 drops slowly in to the canal, then massage gently on the area in front of the ear where it meets his cheekbone. Keep him on his side for a few minutes then turn over and do the other side. If you can, do this twice daily, but if you can only do it once daily that's ok it just will take a few days longer to soften.

I recommend doing it before bathtime so you can wash the hair and skin if it gets oily!

Agree with Sidge. No cotton wool. Also, 4 times a day if you can manage
