dd1's doctors have phoned me at my parents house 3 times in an hour. Because I URGENTLY need to get in touch with them.

I phoned them back and they said that her urine is clear of signs of diabetes but the doctor wants urgent blood tests done.

This is the same dotor that made us think we were being fussy with her and said he didn't like doing tests on children. So there must be something in her urine or the refferal request letter to make him worry.

They are not just routine blood tests because my health service doesn't do routine tests this way. They send you out appointment letters that you wait weeks for. Dd1 has to go in the morning. They had wanted her to go today, which is why they tried phoning me early. Because she needs to fast for one of the tests. Meaning they are testing for diabetes in her blood . But that's only one of the tests. What are the others for???

But why is that urgent? If its not showing in her urine, she can't be in ketosis, so what are they worried about?

I am imagining the worst here and need to calm down before I go insane.

ring back and ask to speak to the doctor. no amount of reassurance here will help as you/we don't know what the blood tests are for. GP's are usually happy to speak to people after surgery.

AGree - call back and don't put the phone down until someone has talked you through what's going on. They can't use the word "urgent" and not explain why.

He is not in today. It's only the nurses my doctors is closed on a Thursday and open as a nurse led practise untill 12.

I had to go and get forms earlier and I asked then if they knew. They said no, the doctor has ordered the tests and spoke directly to the hospital.

Do you think the hospital will tell me?

I think it's worth a shot, but you might have to be bloody persistent.

CompareTheMeerkat · 19/03/2009 11:31

I'd try ringing the hospital.

SheSellsSeashellsByTheSeashore · 19/03/2009 12:15

The hospital cannot tell me over the phone. But they did tell me to try not to worry.

It was a nurse I spoke to who assured me if the tests were that urgent that I needed to be sat worrying, they would have her there now.

I am still worried though.

How worrying for

SheSellsSeashellsByTheSeashore · 20/03/2009 20:14

Well now they have me worrying untill monday

they rushed through the bloods and set them straight to my doctor today. Who phoned and said he needs to see dd1 first thing on monday.

I was at work so they spoke to my mum and couldn't tell her the results over the phone. Well, the nurse said he hadn't even looked at the results, but then, why the urgent appointment?

I'm notv as worried though, because if there was anything really wrong, they would want to see her now, not Monday.

how worrying, really hoping everything is ok. I cant believe they made you wait over the weekend, BUT when they found some worrying signs in DH results they told us to go straight inot hospital. please update us when you can

She has borderline anemia and is malnourished and underweight, due to not eating.

We have been referred to a peadatric nutritionist, to ensure that what she does eat is good for her calorie wise and nutrient wise.

They are hoping to get to the bottom of why she does not eat, but say that some children just don't eat. There isn't always a reason. But she will have more tests and the nutritionist will speak to her.
