Minimising jab trauma - any tips?

DD (12 weeks) is due her second set of jabs tomorrow. She reacted really badly last time, screamed at the time of course but also had a temp after and wasn't herself for 3 days. Is there anything I can do to minimise the trauma this time or do I just have to rough it out??

Someone suggested pre-emptive dose of calpol - is this a good idea? Last time I had to give her two doses after and is that the max anyway?

Also, should I bf her through it, or straight after to calm her?

Hi Kiwi I always gave ds1 a shot of Calpol about an hour before jabs and if you need too, your dd is old enough now for ibuprofen which I have found lowers temp alot quicker anyway, and you can give that alongside calpol so should be ok.
I'd bf her after injection to calm her.
FWIW ds1 reacted completey differently to each one.
Good luck

I gave dds pre-emptive Calpol the second time, and it really helped. Give it 30-60mins beforehand, and I would BF straight afterwards.

Both my dds had a reaction first set, but very little the second, and none the third - hope same for you!

One word of warning about pre-emptive Calpol. It will mask any underlying infection which might contraindicate the immunisations being given, so please only use it if you are SURE your child is not ailing in any way, however slight.

Thanks guys! Nickytwotimes - I'll definitely make sure she's on top form before giving Calpol or indeed the shots themselves! thanks for advice
