Temp few days, breaks then rash. What's that then?!

My child had a temp of 39+ for a good few days. Then it broke. When it did i noticed a red, almost heat rash on torso and back of neck and hair line.

My other child has had a temp this week, it broke today and now has a rash on back of legs and bottom. Although got rash, in good spirits. This rash less pin pricky, more spotty. They both weren't really ill, but were quite off colour.

Have you experienced the same thing?, if so, what do you think it is?

sounds like a viral rash, tis quite common.

my ds who is nearly 3 had something like this and went to the docs and they said it was a virus and for some children it can cause a rash.

just do the glass test on the rash [ie when pressed with a glass the rash should disappear] to ensure it's not meningitis and if it's ok then it's prob a virus.

That's funny because exactly the same thing has just happened to my DD (8 months) - slightly raised temperature for a couple of days last week, then seemed to be better, then came out in spots on her back, chest, and then legs and bottom, and a bit on her face. Not itchy. DD didn't seem to notice she was all spotty. Small red spots which faded when you pressed them, very slightly raised (ie you could feel them if you stroked her).

I rang NHS Direct, and a friend of mine who is a doctor (who also has a 8 month old) had a look at her, and both NHS Direct and the friend reckoned it was a viral rash - apparently in children viruses can cause rashes and it's quite normal / common. As DD was acting pretty well, eating, playing etc, neither NHS Direct nor the friend reckoned it was anything to worry about.

Maybe call NHS Direct? I'd hate for it to actually be something which you should be worrying about, but I hope that it is just a viral rash! How old are your children?

sorry - crossed posted!

Funny isn't it. I think it is a virus. Forgot to say that my older child also had sticky eyes. I thought it might develop into conjunctivitus but it didn't. Eee, what kids pick up ey.

we call it 'post viral' rash in our house,as it seems to arrive once all other ill symptoms have gone.

Sounds like roseola. My DS had this a few months ago...
