Hello,

I think a few of you will know my DD has got acute asthma etc

Again shes been bringing up mucus and is currently asleep on the sofa.

I can see shes struggling to bring the catarrah and mucus up from her chest - how can I help her??

I should know, but I seem to be struggling today, my DP has a phobia of people being sick in front of him, so i've sent him to clear up our garden and mow the lawn and pot the plants and seeds etc.

steamy room with menthol??

my ds used to have teribble asthma i used to thud in between his shoulder blades with my index finger finger -its a desperate feeling as a mum isnt it?.

MuppetsMuggle · 15/03/2009 13:51

I've got all my windows open, as dust doesn't help her asthma at all , and we are fitting a new bathroom so you can imagine the mess and dust.

Have put her in the bath, will have to go and get some menthol stuff tho.

Will try the doing the shoulder blade thing, shes still asleep on the sofa, apart from the odd time of waking when she feels the need to be bring up all the stuff

DP has gone out to get some more bits n bobs for the garden, as its a nice day.

Feel so sorry as i can't do nothing for her, i know there are children worse than DD, but her immune system is shot to pieces over the winter period. this winter shes had bronchitis, flu, croup, tonsilitus, asthma attacks.

Pop her on your knees lying face down, pop a towel over her chest and gently but firmly pat all over he chest. In theory, this should release the mucus. I'm not a physio though.
Wait for her to wake up. Whilst she's asleep she's better off not flat if you can manage it.

MuppetsMuggle · 15/03/2009 14:40

thanks scrooged, shes in the foetal position with her fifi blanked wrapped around her.

This isn't my DD she doesn't sleep in the day. normally talks all day lol

If it's odd then it sounds like you need to pop her back to the GP in the morning as it does sound like a chest infection so she may need some antibiotics. If she sleeps propped up then this will help her.

MuppetsMuggle · 15/03/2009 14:44

was thinking the same scrooged - poss chest infection again.

When did she have the last one?

MuppetsMuggle · 15/03/2009 14:48

February.

She's been ill since Nov - however have had a couple of good weeks, apart from the odd sniffle, but still wrapping her up warm etc.

If it's another chest infection then I'd ask for a chest x-ray. It's possible that the last batch of antibiotics were not strong enough/the course was not longe enough to get rid of the bug so it grew again.
I would pop her back to the GP, especially as she's this sleepy. I'm assuming she's off her food aswell??

MuppetsMuggle · 15/03/2009 17:50

scrooged sorry, DD hasn't let go of me this afternoon - yep off her food, barely drinking too.

Gp in the morning.

I hope she's feeling better very soon.

MuppetsMuggle · 15/03/2009 20:49

Thanks, Shes sleeping soundly all tucked up in bed.

Hopefully she'll sleep tonight, as me and DP are shattered, and my back and hips are still killing me (another thread) lol.

DD seems a little better today.

However it was DP turn today, spent most of the morning and early afternoon down A&E, he's got a golf ball sized lump on his elbow, can't straighten his arm, struggling with alot of things, Doc gave him anti - biotics, and painkillers, and said to make appointment with GP on friday if not gone.

So i'm knackered after looking after two poorly people. What with my back and hip issues, i ache and need sleep lol.

It'll get better. Look after you aswell though!

MuppetsMuggle · 17/03/2009 07:47

As usual, I'm worrying about everyone else - myself goes last.

Because the other 2 are not 100%, they are not thinking of me - just their pain!

Have you heard of Buteyko Breathing? www.buteyko.co.uk Lots of people swear by it for asthma. They run courses which are quite expensive but there is a book which explains the method.
Don't know how old she is, but I think you can start using it when they're old enough to take basic instruction.

MuppetsMuggle · 17/03/2009 19:46

my DD is 4. Will have a look into that thanks. Shes asleep at the moment, just waiting for the growling to start.

Poor thing. FYI, I attended one of these courses (in my case to help with hayfever and IBS) and the asthma sufferers found it really helped.
In fact, I got my DS through a croup attack using it.

MuppetsMuggle · 18/03/2009 18:40

Ahh will def take a look at doing it then
