Struggling at the moment, as ds1 has a really nasty bug. He started throwing up at about 12, has been really sick all afternoon, diarrhoea as well. He doesn't have a temp which is good, but is very shaky and wobbly and upset

I'm very scared of this kind of thing, and finding it really difficult. Keeping his brother away from him is hard work, as he's teething and keeps crying for me. I've tried to keep ds1 in his room and he has a little loo next to it but is mostly not getting that far and throwing up into the bin. That's not too bad but the whole room is going to need cleaning, duvet, carpet, everything.
I've been washing my hands every time and bleaching the loo and taps etc, stopped short of bleaching ds.
But he's pooed in his pj's now and everything is getting a bit out of control. I don't know how to manage everything.
I'm mostly scared that he will still be ill tomorrow and I'll have it too by then and will be incapable of looking after them both.

Don't know what to do.

Oh thank God. Someone has heard.

I'm in such a state. No, nobody to help, it's just me and these two germ laden infants. If I get it we are doomed. Is it best not to eat anything - I mean, does it lessen your chances of catching it?

oh,bless you, i have had exactly the same this week, my 1 yr old brought it in from nursery, then my 2 year old then my 11 year old. i had all 3 with the poos and vomitting, and i am not good with either then to top it off i was up the following night with it myself. sorry, you will just have to ride it out.
on the plus side today was the 1st day we were all well and i feel like i have won the lottery because og it!
good luck

Have you got some disinfectant wipes handy so you can wipe things down as an interim measure? Can you put towels down around their beds/cots in case they chuck up at night and hit the carpet?

Can't really help much more than just to say, it is horrible when everyone has D&V, but it will pass. Fingers crossed that you don't have get it too.

Times like this call for lots of Cbeebies, so take it easy.

Oh thankyou

I struggle every time this happens, to try and relax and knock my terror on the head

don't cope too badly with them doing it, just when it hits me, i fall to bits in a complete panic, can't function, you know...rubbish really.

My mum will probab;ly have to come over to help and that's awful - she despises me for being ill, ever.

Thanks for the sympathy - I'm glad you're better, gardeningmum. That has to be the nicest part!

Jane - so sorry you are dealing with this on your own.

As they are both now sick, and to save on clearing up and washing for you, I would get them both up, infront of a dvd, with a bucket each and lots of old towels spread around on the sofa, under them and over their pjs.

Chances are they will be sick a few more times and its just pointless if it all goes in their beds and you have to change endless sheets.

Wash your hands at least once an hour, do not eat or drink or put your hands near your mouth, don't let los kiss you (you can comfort them in other ways). Do not give them anything to eat or drink, although your older ds might need some sips of water or flat coke or lemonade by now.

It isn't inevitable you will get the bug too. My dcs are 8 and 5 and have had, I guess, 10 stomach bugs between them, but I have only become ill myself on 1 of those occasions. DH never has!

Good luck to you.

JaneSeymour · 14/03/2009 20:19

Well, I've got waterproof sheets on all the beds so hoping they hold out. Ds1 is 5 and very good at aiming, well he tries, bless his heart - but it still goes in random places. I've covered the floor with a huge blanket, will think about how to wash that later.

ds2 breastfed mainly so will prob sit in bathroom all night...he was cryingall day so maybe his tum hurts too

better go as reduced to one finger typing,ds2 feeding again not sure if wise? covered in sicked up milk
thanks for all the advice!

Herbie I do that almost exactly. I nevr know if i have it. I kind of try and make it happen before it can do anything, ridiculous isn't it - one day I will relinquish control. Just not yet.

hope you have a good nights sleep, take care and really hope you dont get it.

Mintyy · 14/03/2009 20:50

Hope you get a good few hours sleep. Try not to worry (not very original but heartfelt) xx.

smudgethepuppydog · 14/03/2009 20:53

I am an emetophoic too. I am currently undergoing CBT and I have to say, it's working. You don't have to suffer the phobia, it's incredibly common and there is help available.

(I also used to do the no eating thing, if you're going to get it you'll get it, empty stomach or not. Having an empty stomach just makes being sick even more unpleasant).

I hope the lurgy goes soon and leaves you well alone.

Mintyy · 14/03/2009 20:56

I agree with smudge btw. I have had cbt and am much better than I was. I'm not sure I could cope calmly and serenely in the event of an actual emergency iykwim but I no longer spend the rest of my life worrying about emergencies, so that is one hell of an improvement for me Xmas Grin.

JaneSeymour · 15/03/2009 05:21

Guys you're all so lovely.

Have had about one wink of sleep, they are both asleep temporarily - we have had both ends from ds2, never quite smelt anything so bad in fact he came close to being put outside

I've reached that stage where I can't eat, have taken a metoclopramide to ward off any actual vomming and increase confidence (yeah right)

It's all a bit hopeless, running out of blankets/sheets/everytyhing really. They have both been SO brave, the worst thing for me is the idea of it going on and on - I've never had prolonged V myself, it frightens me. But I guess when you actually do it it loses some of the fear.
Last time I did it was when I was 14, apart from after giving birth, and during - so quite a long time ago.

I'm waiting to get CBT for other stuff but having it for this would be great.

Thanks again, am so glad it is morning...well almost!

Hopefully they are over the worst now so you can all spend today recovering and catching up on long missed sleep.

JaneSeymour · 15/03/2009 08:38

That would be so nice

Thanks for your help & support last night smudge. It doesn't seem so scary now it's morning iygwim
