Ds2 (13m) has raised ALP levels (bone) - does anyone know anything about this?

This has been picked up in blood tests, it is about 1900. We have to go and see the consultant but all I know at the moment is that it could be all manner of things inc rickets, a growth spurt, healing bone fracture or something to do with his parathyroid glands.

Has anyone else had this? The conversations I have had so far have been evasive and not helpful (partly as they were trying to rule out fractures/child abuse I think).

Has anyone got any experience of this?

Any news?

Sorry, cannot help either, am humble GP and not off the top of my head familiar with baby/toddler ALP levels.
Having given you that disclaimer[simle], there as LOTS of normal things that increase ALP, as you said youreself, incl normal growth spurts.
Why was it checked in the first place? In a normally delevopling/moving child who is well in themselves with all other tests normal, I would probably not worry too much, but recheck in a month or 2.
Glad to hear you have an appointment with somebody who no doubt will know better what they are talking about - I just did not want to let this go without comment.

Good luck!

My ds on the other hand had (still has?) alp deficiency, irrelevant for you I know, but see more ideas from wiki link below. I have look into it quite a lot.

Been told that these levels can fluctuate quite a lot. It's unlikely that most of the scary illnesses mentioned in the link are unlikely in your ds - note the last bullet point in the elevated paragraph: "Transient hyperphosphatasaemia of infancy: benign, often associated with infection"

alp
