Don't think she's ever coughed up phlegm through her mouth before.

Green phlegm is quite often indicative of infection.

Try to get a GP appt today, so he can have a listen to her chest and take it from there.

Sounds disgusting but do you have a container (eg sterile urine sample pot) that if she does it again she could spit into as that could then be cultured to see exactly what she is growing (if anything). Would also give the GP "something to look at"

DS2 also has an inhaler though doctors are reluctant to diagnose asthma (he's only 5)

He has had green phlegm these past few weeks too - I didn't know that meant he might have an infection (he is well otherwise). I just put it down to snot and he doesn't blow his nose as often as he should. You've got me thinking now.....

missorinoco · 13/03/2009 13:30

how is she otherwise? if she is well i would see how she goes.

sorry to be gross, but if she's young she may previously have swallowed it, which is why you haven't seen it before.

cutekids · 13/03/2009 13:32

oh scramblehead...please don't let this upset you.as i said,i don't know myself.it was my mum actually who told me to get her some antibiotics.thing is,my mum is a chest patient herself and has been all her life.i think some people's ideas have changed since she was young.however,it does seem that alot of people on here think that it should be treated so it's hard to know isn't it?

She has a cough but seems well otherwise...apart from wetting the bed....see other thread!

My DS doesn't seem ill - I think I'd know if he was poorly (wouldn't I????).

As misso said, my DS has never been able to cough it up before now.

Am off to read your other thread now.

Good luck
