DD had swallowed so much mucus last night in her sleep that when she woke up she coughed so much she was sick and brought up a stomach load of mucus.

Is there anything I can buy over the counter that can help reduce the sheer amount of snot rattling around in her. She hasn't yet mastered the art of blowing her nose and I can't get her to cough and spit.

She was really scared this morning when she couldn't stop coughing.

Any advice/remedies that will work?

Thanks

there are loads of things you could try - simplest stuff is vicks in a basin of hot water in her bedroom- Warm bath b4 bed to help dislodge as much as poss. You can also buy various decongesting plug ins.

Echinacea and plantain for children by Vogel would be helpful - if only because the plantain acts as a decongestant - the echinacea acts as a preventative from likelyhood of getting something else while the immune system is low.

There is a good chance that in a day or 2 she will be fine.

If you really think the problem is serious speak to your gp about decongestants - but in reality the prescribed ones can be pretty harsh and its probably a case of swatting a mosquito with a 50lb sledge hammer.

Does she have a medical reason for not being able to blow her nose? She may just need a little extra tuition

Hope she's feeling better soon.

Thank you - will keep an eye out for the Vogel remedy - good idea to boost her immune system.

She is vicked up to her eyeballs and seems comfortable atm.

No medical reason - she just can't get the hang of blowing her nose - she wipes and thinks that does the trick.
