Is there a reason why dd has red cheeks......?

She is 3 in July and has never had red cheeks before-not through teething etc
Today is the 2nd day now.....what could it be? She has woken the lsat coupleof nights too which is unlike her which has got me thinking maybe she has caught something?
Anyone have any ideas? I'm being extra cautious as i'm newly pg so am a bit paranoid of catching anything
Maybe it's nothing but it is just very weird to have 48hrs of red cheeks when she has never had any real colour before at all (she takes after me-poor thing!!)

Thanks everyone-I was hoping no one would say that there is someone on my antinatal thread who has caught it and has been told the risk of mc is greatly increased til 17-18wks.

She hasn't been that off colour-a bit grumpy maybe but I put that down to the fact that I haven't been up to much as have bad ms and have been spending a lot of time on the sofa

Oh god. How do they diagnose it? If I took her to the docs would they just send us away? It says on the link that there is no treatment......

are you sire shes not teething? has she got her 2 year molars, my dd got hers just after her third birthday and she had similar symptons to your dd

sammysam · 11/03/2009 15:12

Thank you busybeingmum-that sounds much better

DD and I go to jo jingles, tumble tots and the like-nothing without me-I don't think I've noticed anyone with red cheeks....

clayre-there is a chance-she got her first teeth very late and she doesn't have her back molars yet. Did your dd have red cheeks with previous teeth? I really hope this is what it is.

I suppose it is very likely I had it in childhood-will ask my mum-although she remembers very little from our childhoods!!! I worry as I don't think my immunity is very good generally-have had chicken pox 3 times and get things over and over again.

I am just being extra paranoid as i'm pg and in the not knowing stage-have my 12wk scan next tues and am terrified
Pregnacy seems to do this to me

Thank you for your help!

Teething, slapped cheek, eczema, windburn....?

MrsJoeMcIntyre · 11/03/2009 15:49

My dd gets terrible windburn, bless her sensitive little complexion. She looks like a beetroot for a couple of days after being outside in strong wind.

Could it be that?

SusieDerkins · 11/03/2009 15:50

Lots of slapped cheek around these parts (S W Hampshire)

sammysam · 13/03/2009 09:33

Ok-getting more worried now-DD has had S&D since last night. Cheeks hardly red at the moment. Thinking back I had really achey joints on mon or tues. I'm scaring myself now. Going to docs at 10.30

how did you get on at the dr's?

Nabster · 13/03/2009 18:18

My PIL have just phoned to say m y 3 year old has very red cheeks but is fine in himself. He made some biscuits at playschool today with red food colouring in but I don't think this would be a reaction to it.

My DD had slapped cheek and wasn't unwell with it.

sammysam · 14/03/2009 11:30

Dr said its a gastro bug. I'm not convinced as I always catch bugs and i'm fine. Plus I think as dd's cheeks were fine he just rulled it out, but on the NHS website it says the rash can come and go for 3 weeks.
I don't know. I hope to god it is just a bug. She is much better though D&V overnight and D today.....hopefully this is just the last bit clearing through. Spoke to MW and she said if the doc's not worried then she isn't either. I think i'll just keep a mental note and maybe ask at the scan-hopefully they'll look in more datail.
