Is this Chicken Pox?

DD (3.5) was unwell all day Saturday, high temp, not eating, sleeping way more than usual. Gave her calpol and temperature went down. She was fine all day Sunday and Monday, then Monday evening symptoms came back, high temp etc. Yesterday morning she woke up with 5 red spots on her face and one on her chest, she wasn't eating very much but seemed fine otherwise. Today, the 6 original spots are stil there, but no sign of anymore. Does this sound like chicken pox? GP won't give me an appointment until next week.

Could well be. The spots come in three waves, three days apart. Each wave tends to affect a new area.

Chickenpox can be really mild, and barely have an impact on the child, even whilst they are at their worst - or it can make you feel bl**dy awful! Be aware that it can go into any orifice on the body - eyes, throat, or down below. Not much that you can do to soothe internal spots, but it's good to know that's why your child may be complaining.

Warm baths are lovely and soothing as is calamine cream (better than the lotion ime) and piriton will help reduce the itching and help them sleep (though check the bottle to see if it is appropriate to give to your little one first)

HTH

PS the GP may well prefer to do a home visit to confirm, rather than have an infectious person in the surgery, where there might be other immune suppressed patients anyway.

Do the spots have a watery middle bit, like a blister? If so that is Chicken pox if not - not sure. If it is chick pox - I wouldn't bother with the doctor any way, stick with the calpol and something soothing for the itchy bits.

tartetatin - There is no watery bit, the spots aren't actually raised, that's why I was unsure and was hoping the GP would see her. I see the point about not spreading infection in the surgery though.
