Blood in nappy - advice please

Hello - i changed my 13 month old boy's nappy this evening and there was blood in it - no poo, just blood. His bottom is a little red, but it doesn't look too sore. He's been at nursery all day, and they've not mentioned anything. He's just finished a course of anti-biotics. Any suggestions to reassure me? Obviously if there is more blood in the morning, i'll take him to the docs.

Thanks

Sorry, no real advice other than to ask if perhaps is he constipated? Quite common at his age I think due to introduction of cow's milk. Perhaps the blood was caused by him straining, though I'd imagine this would produce only a little blood. How much blood was there? If more than a little then I would take him to be checked out anyway. How is he in himself? Does he seem off colour?

Hopefully, someone with better knowledge will be along soon.

I'd call NHS direct, actually. It is probably nothing, but might be something, if you know what I mean.

Thanks myredcardigan. It could be constitipation, because he's at nursery all day, I don't know if he's been regular today. It's not masses of blood at all, but enough to be concerned - it's difficult to tell because it's soaked into the nappy. He seems really well in him self, and not worried about having his bottom wiped - so can't be sore.
