Maybe I am just being over sensitive but the nurse told me today that ds2 has droped off the weight chart being very underweight under the 3rd precentile. She said so in a manner which implied to me that I was not feeding him enough and now I am worried as well as being pissed off. He eats like a horse but he also runs around like a headless chicken from the moment he wakes up until bed time. He has never been very chubby as a bf baby until 2 now he does not drink much milk any suggestion on how exactly I am supposed to 'make' him gain weight?

as long as he is healthy and happy then dont worry about it. I was told DS was overweight when he was a toddler[91st centile] but he was also tall now he is skinny and tall and have been told he is underweight so you cant win..lol

oh dear! Nemo I have a similar problem in the fact the DS1 is 5 and has always been chunky up to the 97 centile as a toddler now a bit smaller but still above the 50th and the size difference is so pronounced between ds1 and ds2 that i can't help being a lillte sensitive and soooo many people comment but when it is a health professional it just pisses me off.

I really wouldnt worry about it, Ds is 5 and as I say tall and thin, DD1 is 3 and average and DD2 is 2 and like a little dot despite there only being 12mths between her and dd1 she is just in 12-18mth clothes etc

my 2.5 year old is currently wearing 12/18 month trousers as anything else slides right off.

so sounds the same worst time we had was DD2 potty trained at 18mths and couldnt find knickers to fit her..lol

Sounds like the nurse wasn't very helpful at all.

As other posters have said if he is healthy, happy and engergetic as you say, there isn't really a problem.

However, dd (2.5) has allergy issues and can't have eggs or dairy. Her weight gain had really dropped off, and the dietician advised that we needed to find ways of getting fat into her diet.

Some of the suggestions she made were:
chicken schnitzel (in breadcrumbs), fried in olive oil.
Lamb chops (dd loves gnawing on lamb cutlets, as they're an ideal size for little hands to pick up)
Plenty of margerine in mashed potatoes - in your case as, dairy is not an issue, you can use butter instead. A little cream added is also yummy.

Also, suitable for your ds, try lots of cheesy sauces with veggies, pasta etc. Have you tried making your ds smoothies? He may prefer this to milk on it's own.

Does he like things like rice pudding or custard? Can be served with fruit so that it's balanced nutritionally.

thanks for the ideas ilovepuding will try them he is not keen on mash and cheesy sauces. Thankfully he has no allergies I am aware of so i try to give him abit of everything. think he would like the lamb chops and the chicken shnitzel too. He prefers savoury stuff to sweets to be honest.

Nemo lol at the knickers! I bought ds2 some soft fleecy trousers from mothercare 12-18 months and they are just right at length wise but they keep slipping down his bottom it was not so bad when he was in nappies but now its great fun.
