This may be a silly question, but can a temperature be too low?

Hi, Ds has been v poorly for 6 weeks now with septic arthritis, he has had 3 ops in the last 3 wks, the last being Monday, they have discharged us but we have to return daily for Iv's and I have to check his temp dosnt peak (thank goodness for a thermoscan else we might be stuck there!) Last night he was 34.5 and is still on 35 degrees today, I know it was low one time when he was in hospital and the nurse said she would come back and check it again in an hour to see if it had gone up. Does anyone know if this would indicate anything, or is this normal post op?

This is not normal, and you should seek medical advice immediately. Ring NHS direct, or the ward now.

I have not got a clue but if you have a number for the ward, I would call them to check.

Yes a temperature can be too low. You must seek medical advice.

Thanks everyone, have rung the ward, they asked me if his skin was mottled & whether his lips were blue, eating, drinking, acting normally etc, which he is, but they said to monitor it until we go in this afternoon and they will look at him then. Ta for advice, never seen a low one before.
