Bang on the head

DS2 Had some sort of accident at school today, around lunch time, he has a cut on his head but no bump/lump.

He doesn't seem right but he doesn't seem wrong either, he says he has a headache so i gave him some calpol.

Should i be doing anything else, are there signs i should be looking out for?

You'd think with having two boys i'd know all this by now, but generally when they bang their heads it doesn't bother them, far more likely to have them screaming the place down because they hurt a finger etc.

If he 'doesn't seem right' I'd get him looked at.

How did he bang his head?
Was he knocked out at all? Has he been sick since?
If no fall from great height, and "no" to the above questions, he is unlikely to be seriously hurt.
What do you mean by "not quite right"?

I agree with Coco though, if you are worried get him checked out.
Usual minor head injury advice is rest (so no physical bouncing up and down to give poor brain a rest), Calpol as needed and observe for "unusual" (my favourite ) behaviour.

Waken him when you go to bed tonight and then wake him once in the night (by wake, I mean ruse really, just enough so you know he is asleep and not unconscious).

Having said that, if he doesn't seem right, I'd maybe get him looked at. Does he feel sick or dizzy at all?

Tamarto · 06/03/2009 17:40

He's just not himself, but it might be down to the fact that he has a sore head.

I have no idea how he did it, the school didn't explain, and his version isn't great he's six. I think either he fell or was pushed against the wall.

He's eaten his tea fine and hasn't been sick at all, i think i'll just keep an eye on him.

Thank you both.

Sorry x post.

I'll do that, thanks Soupdragon. No sign of him feeling sick anyway.

When my DD was 5 she was running towards her speech therapist and tripped on a carpeted floor. She was fine, we didn't even see if her head had hit the floor. 3 or 4 hours later she had concussion.

She also banged her head in school a few years ago, the bump was massive and the school sent her home. She showed no signs of concussion, but I took her to A & E and the Dr said it was the right thing to do.

Hope he's fine

I took him to the out of hours, i realised if i was worried enough to post on here, i should just go.

They said he's fine and i've just to keep an eye on him.

Thanks everyone again.
