Has he had any solids?
Sometimes banana looks black in poo.
Does he seem unwell?

MTGG · 06/03/2009 13:37

keep the poo - take along to show dr at emergency surgery asap

at 15 weeks I would not expect a baby to be on solids

yes, paed recommended weaning as he has severe reflux. hes only had rice, bit og fruit and veg. for 2 weeks. hes fracious at the mo but hard to tell if the reflux. wasput on a new med this am but that couldnt affect poo so quick could it?

the place at hosp were at yesterday said maybe old blood and just to keep an eye on him and if it happens again go back or to the doc. Why would this happen though?

ok so he had another black one 2 hours after so i rang the hosp back and they very vague and said ring out of hours.waiting for a call back from gp. the thing im thinking is that he had blueberrys yesterday, could this cause black poo?.

Blueberries?!

Black poo is often old blood from the gut and isn't anything to worry about, but always must be checked out. I have no idea what blue berries would do to a 15wk old's digestion.

mad4mybaby · 06/03/2009 19:51

gp rang and said yes it would be blueberries (puree obv) that did it unless he is still going it in a few days. phew, feel like an idiot now and will stay off the blueberries

yes blueberries can cause black poo they did with my dd and her poo got sent off - oops.

Also blueberries can cause black bits in the teeth if they have just been eaten (obviously) and the gp can mistake them for tooth decay - yes it did happen.
