Glandular fever

Dd's friend has glandular fever, and is very upset at missing so much school. Her mum has asked if dd will come and play from time to time.

Just how infectious is GF? I know it's spread by kissing, which 6yos aren't likely to be doing, but they do like to mess around with makeup and get very cuddly.

I'd keep away.
How long has the friend had it?

i had GF for about a year when I was 13/ 14 (I even kissed boys without realising I had GF) and no-one I knew caught it so I would think your dd is pretty safe.

I also had best friends who I was close to and they never caught it either.

It's been about 3w since she started being ill. She has ups and downs, and she's still getting fevers and active illness, rather than being in the well-but-exhausted stage.

If she is still actively ill rather than in the convalescing stage, then she is infectious and should be avoided.
