Mumps, does the mmr absolutely definitely protect them against mumps?

Stupid sounding question I know, but we're due to see a friend tomorrow whose dd has mumps. Both my dc have had mmr, but I'm sure a friend of mine told me that her ds got mumps despite having had the mmr.
Wouldn't normally be so neurotic about it, but am 36 weeks pg and if one of my dc do get it, then there's a good chance it will still be hanging around when the new baby is born.

Wouldn't think it could be 100% effective. In normal circumstances I'd probably risk it but I wouldn't if I were you (and am 38 weeks pg so know where you're coming from ! IN fact, at about 36 weeks I avoided a child with chicken pox even though I am virtually 100% sure I am immune and dd had had it).

I thought the MMR was around 90% effective. It is possible that one of your DC could get it.

Thanks, just had a google, and it says that after first set of jabs it's 90 - 95% effective. That would really finish me off right now, dd1 is suffering quite badly with chicken pox and I have a cold from hell, so the mumps family probably won't want to see us either!
