I haven't used the allergy bedding.
Is his pillow new? perhaps you need to change it? What about washing his favorite teddy?
Asthma nurse told me not to open window cos pollen etc can come in.
have you a bowl of water by radiator?

i think you really need to check his brown inhalor working, and breathed in correctly and efficiently else will not be effective. If it was I would guess the cough would go. I think it takes 3 months to build up the inhalers in the body. i remember nurse telling me to start with giving the blue before the brown three months before hay fever starts.
by the way - ds never had a runny nose with his cough.

mad4mybaby · 03/03/2009 20:50

I dont have radiator on as he gets too hot. ive just put a bowl of boiling water with olbas oil in it beside him.

he wasnt coughing for an hour after he used the brown inhaler... isnt coughing at the moment.

he did have 3 but ive taken the stuffed dogs out and he only has a soft thomas the tank which is actually quite hard... how long do you put in freezer and how often should you do it? ITs been questioned that my ds2 (15 weeks) has allergic rhinitus. He's been given drops by ent specialist for a month...

Hi, how is you ds now? Did you go to the Docs?

Beantin · 05/03/2009 18:51

keep him off all dairy products. worked for my brother, but he was kept off of all dairy for about the first 5 years of his life.

Dd1 had a recurrent asthmatic cough, which kept her awake for nights on end. We saw several different gps, who all gave her different medication (some of which made her hyper, and sleep even less). In the end I asked for a refferal to the paediatrician at the hospital. We have seen him twice, he put her on terbutaline/Bricanyl (in a syrup form, because he said she wasn't getting enough reliever in inhaler form), which she was to have a maximum of 3 x a day if she had symptoms (basically, tight cough + wheeze). This was in addition to a brown inhaler twice morning and night. He said that she should also have 2.5ml Piriton morning and night, if she was particularly wheezy. It was always worse when she had a cold, which meant for a lot of the Winter she was bad, but since Christmas, she has improved loads, and the consultant said to stop giving her the brown inhaler for a while, and start it again if she got bad. I was very vigilant about dust and teddies etc, but I think it is more having a cold (and hayfever, unfortunately)which triggers her symptoms.

Would it be possible for you to get a refferal to the hospital?

mad4mybaby · 05/03/2009 20:15

well i took him to doc and they have given him brown inhaler to use twice a day every day. doc said def asthmatic and see how he goes. Ive been using it but having to pin him down and i also bought anti allergy bedding and got rid of teddies and hes alot better. Not 100% but today when he got up he was playing which he hasnt been recently.

He is allergic to dairy so he doesnt have any.

I dont know about the hosp...i guess i'll see how he goes with the brown inhaler... He still coughs but no where near as much. How long would you let this go on for and is still coughing still acceptable for an asthmatic or should they not cough at all?

Personally if the cough is disturbing his sleep I would ask for a referral (unless the brown inhaler makes a difference). Dd was so cranky and knackered during the day, because she was waking 2 or 3 times a night. We seemed to see a diffeent doctor each time, and because the blue inhaler made her very hyper, they just kept trying different things, none of which made any difference. It was good to get some consistency, and someone who seemed to have a real plan!

I hope your lo reacts well to the brown inhaler,I believe it can take 2 or 3 weeks to make a difference (maybe ask dr this?).

Good luck

mooseloose · 05/03/2009 20:40

my ds (7) cough has gone now the brown is working well. Give it a couple of weeks to kick in I guess?

mad4mybaby · 05/03/2009 20:41
