What food is good or to be avoided for DD (15m) with tummy bug?

She's had loose poo for days and has been vomiting today, but seems alright in herself. Has kept down some cow's milk and rice cakes, few mouthfuls of dinner, and yoghurt.

What's easy on the tummy? Would you give her Actimel probiotic drinks (I don't usually as they've got a lot of sugar in them).

I know bf is good, but unfortunately she's pretty much self-weaned.

i always though dairy was teh worst thing you could give - sorry. i would stick to dry foods like toast, rice cakes, breadsticks, do you have any of those dioralite(sp?) type drinks to keep her hydrated?

techpep · 01/03/2009 20:07

I always do it the old fashioned way. Dry toast for 2 days, maybe dry crackers as well to replace salts, no milk, or dairy products, the germ breeds quicker apparently.

Oh dear, really? Haven't got any dioralite, but she's been drinking diluted juice alright.

good are bananas, white rice, white toast, scrambled eggs - light easy to digest foods, very dilute juice, lots of sips of water, flat lemonade and diorolyte or similar rehydration product

Traditionally it's toast, maybe scrambled egg, maybe soup I think.

If she's got the runs you don't want to give her anything with too much fibre which will make her "go" eg fruit.

Hope she feels better soon.

The advice now is to let them eat what they want, when they want. Simple foods are better such as toast, soup, pasta and rice. Avoid very sugary foods and fizzy drinks.

Thanks all. I'll give her toast tomorrow morning and see how she does. Unfortunately she won't eat egg. Banana's a good idea.

Thanks again. Fingers crossed I won't be up tonight changing sheets...
