dd fell down the stairs this morning , at about 11 ish.
She cried and was upset. About an hour later she said that her head hurt so we gave her calpol.

We have just driven to my sisters and dd fell asleep on the way. This is normal for her. She stayed drowsy and nodded back off( on my lap) once dh carried her in. This is sort of normal.

I just wondered if there are any other signs we should look out for. I am keeping a look out for any signs of sickness.

Was she knocked out? If not and she cried straight away then it's usually classed as a minor head injury.

This gives you a little bit of information about minor head injuries and this is a good comprehensive leaflet.

Hope she's ok

Only speaking from personal experience, I've had concussion twice. I felt sick about 2 hours after I'd hit my head and about an hour later I got sparkles in front of my eyes. My head hurt both times.

I'm sorry to say but head injuries can be difficult and I would call NHS 24 and talk to someone just to be on the safe side.

She cried straight away. But she is quite floppy. Is awake now but just snuggling with dh or me. But this is not out of the ordinary for her either. I'm just worrying cos of the fall.

Thanks sushipaws aswell.

If she is floppy then please seek medical advice. How old is she - sorry I couldn't see her age on the thread.

princessmel · 01/03/2009 15:00

She is 3 and a half. She just said her tummy hurts and her head still hurts.

I think it can be difficult for a young preschool child to accurately identify and verbalise where the pain is (or indeed if there is any pain).

I think that you are still worried, and there is some evidence that she might need checking out. Better to ring out of hours GP (or whatever is available in your area) now rather than it getting nearer bedtime and you will still be worried possibly then.

SO sorry to hear about her fall, it's a shock for her and you.
