Dietition has given him iron suppliments. Some days are better than others. Today he refused all meals just eat some yoghart and sucked the soft cheese from a bread stick.
We are going back in 1 months time. If this continues what will they do next.......I'm really worried......

They normally give out milkshake drinks that are like slimfast but have the opposite effect. My little brother was a non-eater too, this is what was given to him, they are like a full meal in a carton.
What else does he eat besides yogurt and cheese?

hummous? That's about it at the moment. We have tried everything. He hasn't been the same food wise since he had tonsilitis at Christmas.

It's all squishy food that he's eating isn't it? It sounds like he's afraid to eat anything 'hard' incase it hurts him. Poor thing. Would he eat porridge/soup and take it from there?

My CM gave my DS Minadex when he wasn't eating after having a really sore throat - have you tried that?

sw1 · 27/02/2009 23:53

Thanks yes Minadex is was the dietition gave him to increase his iron and appitite. Nappies are terrible on it!

Thanks scrooged - yes he has even gone off sandwiches. He opens them and pulls out the cheese?!

It's because the cheese is soft and the bread's rough. Have you tried mush? Babyfood? Just to get him eating again? then make the food thicker? Mashed potato and cheese? Soft food?

We have tried everything! This morning was a good example. Cried as appraoched highchair. Happy once we had all sat down. Gave him very runny weetabix started to eat our own then he tossed the bowl and shock his head to say no. Daddy started eating his shreddies he picked one out of daddy's bowl and eat it! Not sure if shreddies are a good thing to eat but anyway. He then refused anything else. Is now asleep with 1 shreddie in his tummy and 3oz milk.......roll on lunch time I can hardly wait......

DS goes on hunger strike from time to time and can often be lured to eat with interesting fruit like blueberries, strawberries, sliced bananas etc. He goes off anything carby for long periods sometimes. We tend to offer him meals but disregard it if he doesn't eat and just offer him snacks instead which he will eat more reliably. Things like pate on piecves of bread or cracker, ricecake or oatcake sometimes work. Also, he likes to dip things in mayo or ketchup - bit of a novelty I think. It must be really hard not to stress about it when he's been off his food for so long but I would think it's important that you try to stay chilled about it as much as possible. Hope he picks up soon

For breakfast, if DS won't eat his usual (porridge) he'll almost always pick at a handful of Cheerios scattered on the tray of the highchair.

Great ideas here. Also could you make a soft finger foody type meal for you with a bit extra on and then eat it where he can access the plate and let him pick some bits off? No pressure or asking him if he wants anything. I often find they think other people's food is much more attractive Sorry if you've already tried this.
