15 month old's LIPS have been PURPLISH for two days - Normal?

He has a tummy bug (vommitting on the weekend, diarrhoea ever since). Also had MMR 9 days ago. Also probably teething. With all that i'm not surprised that he is grumpy, tearful and at times oddly silent and starey. But i've also noticed that his lips have been tinged purple for a couple of days. Any idea what could be causing that? Should i worry?
Thanks.

I woulde get it checked. Maybe call the surgery in the morning to see if this normal after MMR.

Is he pale aswell? Blue fingernails? What colour's his tongue?

Mumnnanny · 27/02/2009 00:03

I recon he has had an adverse reaction to the MMR. Get him an emergency appointment with doc in the morning but keep watch on him overnight.

Thank you i will call surgery in the morning. I haven't noticed anything on tongue or nails and he's alseep now (thank god). -Would you wake him to check tongue?

What would discoloured nails and tongue suggest?

Mumnanny, have you heard of this as a symptom of MMR reaction?

Sorry if i don't answer immediately as both kids keep waking.

Lack of oxygen in the blood.

breakfastinbed · 27/02/2009 00:30

JodieO, I know lips go blue when people are actually suffocating. He has had this for a couple of days thought and doesn't appear to have trouble breathing. Could it still be lack of O2? Should i be panicking?

(sorry that was 'though', not 'thought')

Pale, blue lips and fingernails could indicate that there's not enough oxygen in the blood. My lips do go blue several times daily though so some people do naturally have crap circulation. It's best for a GP to decide though.

JodieO · 27/02/2009 00:35

I know that lips, nails etc go blue when there is a lack of oxygen. Might be worth getting him checked over or at least calling nhs direct if that is the case with him. I'm not qualified but I do have 3 dc's and have been to and fro the drs and hospital a fair few times with them. Hope you and your son are ok.

How are things today?

breakfastinbed · 28/02/2009 17:57

Hi Prosecco (like your name)
It seems to have subsided thank goodness. However he has been screaming inconsolably and unaccountably for several periods today so i'm still keeping a close eye on him. Hopefully all better soon...
