My dd (5 months) had her bcg a couple of months ago and still has quite a large bump/bruise

It's quite hard as well, is that fairly normal?
We live in an area with a lot of tb which is why they vaccinate young'uns.

Yes that's fine I think. My 3 have had it and I seem to remember it starts to almost break out like a spot and then scab over at around 6/7 months (assuming your dd had it soon after birth) Some people don't have a reaction at all like my ds2, so he will have to have a skin test to see if he has developed antibodies or not. From what i can remember from my studies, some people have a natural immunity so don't react to the vaccine.

It's my DH's favourite book, and was his first present to me. And one of our DDs is sort of named after one of the characters (she's Behemothetta. No I jest).

Oh, and on the actual subject of thread, DD1 had a scabby BCG for MONTHS - really, months and months.

actually not particularly but I loved the books when little, it just was the first one that came to mind!

But this bcg, it's like a hard round lumpy bruise at the moment as big as a penny. It just seems a bit grim.

But I'm a vaccinationophobe at the best of times even though I know how wonderful they are!

I'm not sure DD's was ever that big, or lumpy. Hopefully someone else will answer who knows the answer though so bumping for you...

My sis is a practice nurse and she thinks that sounds fine but she doesn't give the bcg it's a specialist vaccine apparently.
It's such a shame to have a horrible lump on that adorable little arm! Wish I knew if it was normal but I'll call the gp next week and ask.

I really wouldn't worry QC. Sadly they can look horrid for ages afterwards, whether raised or scabby. You can hardly see ds1 (4) and dd's (7) now. I believe it should scab though at some point, for it to be 'effective', so if it hasn't started to scab in the next couple of months I would mention that to your HV/GP during a routine check up.
