Keeping your child well hydrated is more important than food when they're unwell. Your child has an extremely sore and swollen throat and eating will cause pain .
Give regular paracetamol to help keep temperature down if s/he has one, as well as helping to ease the pain they are experiencing (which may encourage him/her to try to eat something).

Try ice lollies or ice cream which will provide some fluids as well as the cold which will ease their pain for a bit. Also try to tempt with soft foods - lukewarm soup (though not tomato as it is quite acidic and may hurt an already sore throat - my own experience with tonsilitis!!), yoghurts/fromage frais, custard, jelly, mashed banana, creamed potatoes, scrambled eggs etc. Anything cold is usually best.

Dont expect him/her to eat for a few days - s/he'll eat when s/he's ready to, but make sure you keep the fluids up. If no improvement go back and see your GP for more advice.

And plenty of hugs !!

take to Docs and get throat swabbed - saves hassle if it deteriorates and I insist on this every time now

Take docs advice

but yes hydration v.v. important thing here
