Have a quandry - I know that she may not get it(but highly likely she will) - but do I limit contact or just get on with life as normal (toddler groups, etc) until spots appear?

She is very active and I will go stir crazy staying in now aswell as the spottly time if it does develop!!!!!!

Or am I being overly cautious?

There's no gaurentee she will develop chicken pox, and it could take between 10 and 20 days to develop if she does.

You do not have to stay in 'quarentine', but I was told by a peadiatrician that you should to try and stay away from very small babies and pregnant women if possible.

TotalChaos · 25/02/2009 13:57

Don't stay in but probably best to stay away from toddler group as there are likely to be very young babies/PG women around.

I would just presume you carry on as normal

if you mixed with a few kids over a few weeks with CP then you could be indoors for a very long time lol

Don't stay in FGS! If she does get it, you'll be going doolally so don't prolong the agony.

Mention it to any pregnant women you see though.

DS spent a whole year being exposed to chicken pox (there were serial outbreaks at nursery) He still hasn't caught it.

cory · 26/02/2009 10:46

The thing is she may have been exposed to chicken pox every week of the year without your knowing it. COuld be sitting next to a child on the bus or at soft play or wherever. Dd was exposed many times during childhood, but only caught it aged 10.

WibblyPigRocks · 26/02/2009 10:48

Agree with others - don't stay in but do consider pregnant women and very young babies, just in case.

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 26/02/2009 10:48

You can't stop everything just in case.

Life goes on.

It would be wise to take precautions though if you know someone who is immunocompromised for example or who hs an extremely young baby.

Hassled · 26/02/2009 10:49

Carry on as normal. DS3 was exposed many times before he actually had it (aged 4) - when he was 2 most of his toddler group seemed to have it, but it passed him by then.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 26/02/2009 16:42

Get on with life as normal!! dd has been exposed countless time but nary a spot and shes 9! We'd have spent half of each spring quarantined if we'd stayed away just in case.

can you post some chickenpox germs here please. I'd much rather she got it now rather than when shes an adult.

Still no spots but very snotty - still playing the spotty waiting game!!!

I am taking your wise advice - going out but avoiding our normal toddler groups. Boo hoo!
