Hello

I think DD3 has chicken pox and it might just send me round the flipping twist!!!

Busy old month here chez us. Step-DD1 just out of hospital having had double-curve scoliosis surgery and is off onto 3 months of rehab. Step-DD2 soldiering on with her peanut study and FIL very poorly now in late stage lung cancer. I have had a throat infection all week and the today....

.... I collect DD3 from Nursery and they point out some spots they suspect are Chicken Pox. So, off to the docs, he says they 'might' be, the scatter is right but she is as bright as a button and has not been poorly in the last week other than a sniffy nose (constant in Nurseries I think!)

So, help please. She has red pin point dots more than spots, most prob about 20 total on her tummy, backs of legs and maybe one on her hand and one on her lip. She has not been poorly as I said.

So, what is the vote that this is chicken pox, if she has not been poorly is there any chance she may have a mild case? When they say she cannot go back to Nursery for 5 days from the first blister appearing to the last one crusting over, does this mean I have to wait until the start to blister until I start counting or are spots just called blisters?

Please help, am also on a diet and tired and fed up and feel like roadkill, not even wine is on the menu!!

Many thanks in advance x

If the doctor doesn't know, who will?!

All I can say (and you won't like me for saying it) is that my children weren't ill at all when they had CP, so the fact that she is as bright as a button doesn't get you off the hook.

Sorry.

BlueBumedFly · 24/02/2009 20:06

Hmmmm, thought not. Did they have lots of spots?

DS1 had about 50. DS2 and DD were covered on every inch of their bodies. I counted about 50 on the back of their necks alone andd gave up the count at that point!

MadameCastafiore · 24/02/2009 20:12

Check molluscum contagiousum - they are very like chicken pox and doctors often get them mixed up.

Mind you I think I would prefer Chicken Pox!

Ceebee74 · 24/02/2009 20:12

My 2 DS's had them about a month ago and neither were ill either.

DS1 had a slight temp a couple of days before the spots appeared and a runny nose (but, as you say, due to nursery, he always has a runny nose!) but no other symptoms apart from the spots.

DS2 - no symptoms at all other than spots but he was only 2 months old at the time and apparently babies get it very mildly anyway.

The spots - some were pin pricks but most started off looking exactly like insect bites - in fact I thought DS1 might have had fleas at first . They started on his tummy/back and loads around his bottom - and then spread to his face (he had tons on his face!)

Can't help re the nursery policy - DS1's nursery was just a blanket 7 days from the first spot appearing.

BlueBumedFly · 24/02/2009 20:14

MadameC - will check it out but now scared!

Ceebee - I thought she might have flees as that is what they look like!

Ho hum, never rains eh?

Oh I 'm sorry - it does sound like it might be chicken pox - the last thing you need on top of everything else, although there never is a good time to get them is there? DS1 got them just as DH was going back to work after DS2 was born and this meant he was away all week - and I was struggling to cope with looking after both boys and nursery for DS1 was the only respite I got during the week and obviously that wasn't an option - but it did help me get over my fear of looking after the 2 of them for a long period of time but it was hard!!

Oh no things always seem to happen when you really don't need them
You should know by morning as if it is the pox some will be blistered.
The pox are going round ds nursery and really hope we don't get them he has his mri scan on sat so keep the pox away lol.

BlueBumedFly · 24/02/2009 21:07

Hello alibobins - what is the scan for? Hope you are spot free!!

In my very recent experience (DD1 and nephew). Both were not noticeably ill beforehand (sorry). But on the bright side, they both started with just one or 2 spots on chest and back which blistered within 6 hours.

If nursery noticed it this morning, they should be blistered by now.

Behind the ears was a prime site for spots for both too. Check there.

I'm on the fence.

Hope things get better for you soon.

BCNS · 24/02/2009 21:24

DD came home today with pox spots .. 2 have already blistered.. and we have been watching more come up.. flee bite type.. I will be looking for more blisters in the morning too.

sorry it's come at an awful time for you.. just typical isn't it.

good luck!

alibobins · 24/02/2009 21:24

Hi bbf- he's got a strange mark on one side of his face its like a port wine stain but not there all the time. It goes around his eye and the want to see if it effects his brain
once they know what it is they are going to discuss treatment as it grows lots of little spots off it that have to be removed.
It really is strange the consultant described it as an abnormal vascular nevus
its under general so a worried.
fingers crossed for a spot free dd.

BlueBumedFly · 24/02/2009 21:59
