ds2 has severe reflux and is on max omeperazole and domperidone. ds1 had it so i know all about it and prop them up and all that but ds2 is 13 weeks and just having a nightmare getting him to sleep in the day. he wont fall asleep even on me. can sometimes get him toi sleep out in pram but wont stay asleep when we stop walking. he'll generally fall asleep in the car but again stop car and he wakes unless its in afternoon and he'll generally sleep a few hours in the car seat. at night he sleeps ok in cot all night so dont understand why he is in more pain in the day? he used to fall asleep by himself in the cot but he is in more pain and stops him sleeping. please help, at wits end as cant drive round every 3 hours esp with 2.8 ds1.

mmmm only other thing I can think of (and this may be controversial) is, if he is refluxing whilst feeding, how about a slower flow teat?

mad4mybaby · 26/02/2009 16:27

we have had to go faster teat due to the carobel!

how long has he been on the meds?

ranitadine is very weight dependent so the dose needs adjusting regulalry and it takes a good week or more to start to see a difference

mad4mybaby · 26/02/2009 16:40

ranitadinewas about 4 weeks. he has been on domperidone and omep now for nearly 3 weeks. i got it reviewed (weight) tuesday and he def on max

rubyslippers · 26/02/2009 16:47

and none of it is making a difference?

i would sya the longer you use it the better the results will be

mad4mybaby · 26/02/2009 17:22

domperidone has def helped as before he couldnt burp and now he can easily and his poos are normal but the burning pain side of things havent improved and he is always worse straight after having it

rubyslippers · 26/02/2009 19:02

hmm - the ranitadine is the antacid so should help with the burning

have you got a consultant you could call?

mad4mybaby · 26/02/2009 20:27

he isnt on ranitadine anymore as it didnt help, he is on omeperazole and domperidone now.

was told to give it in the morning and every since ive had really awful mornings with him, yesterday afternoon onwards he was happier (after having carobel in feeds) this morning i didnt give him omeperazole as was out and a pain to take the water, pot, pill etc so i gave it to him after lunch. This morning he was really happy and then since the omeperazole feed onwards he has been a nightmare. I dont think it can be a coincidence.... im going to try not giving it to him tomorrow just to see if im right..

How's it going this morning with out the omep? Is the Carobel enough?

Strange that it seems to make him worse. Omep is a proton pump inhibitor (sp) so it reduces the amount of acid being produced. However your LO probably still has some inflammation to deal with, which is why it takes a while for omep to make a difference. Once the inflammation has reduced then that's when the affects of the omep are noticed.

I take mine in the morning but I have a firend who takes it at night. Incidentally, I was on renitadine and was switch to omep as ren stopped working.

Did you say he's been on it 2 weeks?

have you tried cutting all dairy out of your diet? both my babies had terrible reflux and this was the only thing that helped.

sorry for lack of punctuation, am holding my sisters newborn.

mad4mybaby · 27/02/2009 20:08

hes bottle fed as was put on vaious milks as has soya and dairy intollerances (ds1 allergic) so he is having nanny goats milk (under paeds go ahead as he was poorley on nutramigen.neocate etc and was only milk that worked for ds1 aswell)

have given carobel every feed. He is def refluxing less and easier to get to sleep although his belly is constantly churning and gurgling and keeps waking him up

I don't know if anyone else has suggested , but with DS 1,2 & 3 (all of whom had reflux) I used a sleep positioned , which is like 2 tubes that go either side of baby, this helped them as they then slept on their sides without rolling over. I also used the Enfamil AR formula. DS1 was on ranitidine and domperidone, DS2 on Domperidone and DS3 on Ranitidine
