Chicken pox - risk to other adults?

I think DD has got chicken pox. Had temp a couple nights ago and now has a few red spots on her tummy. Several cases at nursery.

Not too worried as figure she is going to get it at some point and I remember having it as a kid but just wondered if any other issues eg DP can't remember if he's had it - is he likely to catch it? FIL is due to come around tonight. He is old and not in good health - does anyone know if any extra risks for him?

Grateful for any ideas. I thought my first post would be about birthday parties but its never what you expect with kids!

If an adult gets cp it can be much worse - I had it when I was 17 and was v ill. Ditto the elderly - isn't there a risk of shingles as well?

I would check that FIL has had it. Could your DP check with his mum - she should know.

You cant catch shingles. Shingles is a result of having has chicken pox in the past and the virus re-emerging. Exposure to chicken pox reduces the risk of shingles in a person already immune to chicken pox.

tink123 - that is terrible! I wish vaccination was just done for all its a bloody horrible thing to get! My DS was due to be vaccinated on thursday this week but has come into contact with it last week so need to phone docs tomorrow to find out what to do

Thanks for comments. DD much better now although we call her 'Spotty Dotty'. She didn't enjoy it much and was quite ill.

As for adults DP's family decided he had had it not that there was much he could do about it anyway! Decided to keep away from FIL just in case.

Just to let you know.. we are staying well away from my dad, he had shingles last year and i don't want to set him off again..

so we'll see him when dd is totally scabby ( niceeee)

You will not give your dad shingles.
Exposure to CP reduces the chance of shingles.

ah that's brilliant tigger.. I'll see him sooner then
