Dd1 is 9 she's been complaining of tummy ache since Friday but still eating normally no other symptoms until last night when she had a bit of a temperature and said she felt sick, she has been having painkillers when needed and last night I gave her a flannel and a different blanket and put a dvd on to try and take her mind off it and said the best thing to do was try and sleep which she did after about an hour.

This morning she had ibrobrufen at 7.30am and then went back to sleep, she's had a warm bath.

What else can I do for her and what could it be?

Hi, my little girl (4) has just recovered from this. She was generally fine in the day, bit of appetite loss, then each night she would wake with a terrible stomach ache.

Last Sunday we took her to a@e as I was concerned it could be appendicitis. She was exhamined and the doc told me it was gastroenteritis. It lasted for 6 days in total.

If you are at all concerned pop her to the docs but it probably is this virus.

Thanks, she has played on her ds and done her homework but she's still saying she has tummy ache she did fall asleep for a little while and hasn't eaten much but I'm still hoping it's not a bug and that she'll be fine by tomorrow.

My dd1 just had a week of this - diarrhoea for about four days (no temp at any point), pale, otherwise apparently ok with occasional tummy pain. But worst at night, waking with cramps and violent diarrhoea...even after she seemed ok again in the day, and was eating.

No one else caught it, bar poor woman who comes to help me out on the day dd started, but she only had it for 24 hours...the rest of us felt a bit icky, but nothing happened.

Hope she's better soon, we found Calpol helped the cramps a bit, and lots of water/rice etc...

Ok so no D or V just a bit of a temp and says she feels sick and has tummyache. She slept fine last night and I've kept her off school today. She's off her food a bit but I think it's more she's scared of eating incase it makes her worse, I've been making her what she wants just so she eats a bit of something.

Anyone any idea if she will be ok by tomorrow?

I always suspect not wanting to go to school for some reason with vague symptoms like this.....but I'm always looking for psychosomatic explanations for things. Mainly because with my dd it almost always is!

My dd does know how to lay it on thick and I am sceptical BUT she does really have a temp and yesterday when I got her out of the bath she was shaking and couldn't get herself dressed and just lay on the sofa so I thought a day off wouldn't hurt but don't really want her to have tomorrow off as well, what would you do, would you keep her off tom if still has a temp but nothing else or give her some painkillers in the morning and send her and see how she goes?

I think part of it is that she'd had half term off and doesn't want to go back, I know her best friend is also playing with another friend (according to dd her best friend is being stolen) and that seems like the end of the world to dd but not an excuse to stay off school and I would have sent her but you can't fake a temp can you so I've kept her off but on the condition she has bed rest.

I think there's no harm in them going to school with a bit of a temperature - but I'm old and hard and of the "You're not bleeding and nothing's actually hanging off and you're not throwing up - off to school with you!" mind set.

In my experience (sadly extensive) of girl-friendship things, staying off is the worst thing you can do. You go back and find you've missed an episode and can't wok out what's going on. (Just like Eastenders!)

Good luck.

I'm the same, I was brought up to go to school no matter what and it does extend into their working life, I want my dd's to be successful and taking a day off for the slightest thing isn't going to help them in their careers later on, on the other hand of course she is just a child and I look back on the times I could actually have a duvet day when I was ill and wish I could do that when I feel ill now but of course I have responsibilities now and people relying on me.

If she has a very little bit of a temp, and is otherwise ok, you could send her in - but personally, a temp and I would keep her off.

There are lots of tummyache bugs around, at least at dd's school, not all with D or V...dh had one last week.

chloemummy · 24/02/2009 11:52

my dd is 8 and has been complaining of stomach ache. She has had it on and off for the past month. I kept her off school for one day but she seemed to be ok. No other signs and symptoms. today I made ehr go to school. Tried to talk to her to see if anything is bothering her as it seems to be last thing at night because (I think) she does not want to go to bed then first thing in the morning as she does not want to go to school.... Sorry dont want to hijack thread but dont know what to do for the best.
