NITS!!! Or Rather The Egg Cases

Please is someone able to advise me...My daughter doesn't appear to have any live head lice (we comb through regularly) but loads of the empty egg cases stuck to her hair. Is it possible to get them out when they are 'cemented' on?

Condition & comb, condition & comb...it's a time comsuming task. Wash hair then condition then comb with a nit comb.

You need a nitty gritty comb!

What's a nitty gritty comb? We do have a nit comb but maybe there are more effective ones???

Nitty Grittys are a essential parenting tool!

They get all the eggs out, they are wonderful, and guaranteed for life!

WOW - def will get a nitty gritty comb. Do they truly get all the nasty little eggs too, they are almost worse than live lice! Especially noticeable in dark hair...Yuck!
Thanks VERY much.

They really do, they are amazing. Mine bent when I was using it on myself (I didn't realise I had a blob of plasticine stuck in my hair hehe) and I sent it off and got a brand new one within 3 days. Marvellous!

(feels a bit sad enthusing about a nit comb, but such is life)

Yes they are fab. You can get them in Boots and Tesco now too. They are about £10 but they are the BEST head lice product on the market IMO.

I have just treated DTD2's outbreak in a single day with it.

I had exactly the same with my my dd(10) last week. Quite a few egg cases but nothing with legs. Have now treated and spent ages combing as she has very thick and long dark hair.

But I do wonder whether the fact I have straightened her hair with my GHDs a few times recently might have something to do with the absense of live lice! (Special fried lice?)

What is so special about a nitty gritty? How do they differ to regular nit combs? Think I might get one.

SlightlyMadScotland · 21/02/2009 15:23

They have a corkscrew on the teeth o the comb - so they are essentially touching. I think they have a close up picture on the site linked above.

The teeth of the comb are also about 4cm long as opposed to the 1cm you get on most combs. GREAT for long thick hair (DTDs is v v thick and down to their bum!).

It seems as though it would be coarse on teh hair - but having used it on myself it isn't actually too bad.

It also claims to "remove or destroy 100% of eggs that t comes into contact with" (or words to that effect).

I believe that is true...getting it into contact with all the eggs (i.e. being torough) is the key to success.

The advantage of treating the eggs (which no other product does) is that they don't hatch. If they don't hatch you don't bget crawlers. It is the crawlers whcih itch. It is the crawlers which move from one head to another spreading it round the class.

Well...I have been to Boots today and bought us a Nitty Gritty comb. How absolutely marvellous is this product and why have I never discovered it before?
I've been all the way through dd's very long and thick hair and it's taken me ages but the results are immediate!
Wonderful, truly and thanks for the advice.
